Park Lake Motel

This review is a little challenging because this motel is different from many that I have stayed at. But it is also off the beaten path in an area where there aren't a lot of other options. So does this place just stay the way it is because it's the only game in town, or does it stay the way it is because it's a throwback to simpler times and it's what people want? Let me explain. It's a very small building in a very sleepy town. You get to to the motel through a narrow laneway between two houses. There is no staff to check you in, the door is just unlocked. You open the door and your key (yes, key) is waiting by the TV along with checkout instructions. The walls are wood paneling and cinderblock. The bathroom is bare-bones but clean and functional. It doesn't look like they've made any attempt to modernize it. All of these things are odd, but somehow totally fitting and even appreciated given the surroundings. The room itself is quite spacious, and the more you look around, the more you realize and appreciate all the furniture is somewhat unique and almost antique-like (or maybe they are actual antiques). They give it character, but not in a tacky way. My only complaint is that it wasn't overly cheap. And although I like it's charm, there's a certain price point where certain expectations need to be met, such as decor, amenities etc. I realize the hotel isn't in a big town, but it's not THAT far from other major hotel options. I walked around a bit at night and noticed that there was a small office at the end of the motel, but we never went in it nor did we see a single motel employee during our stay. But i'm sure they were a phone call away if we needed anything. I kind of liked the experience. It almost felt like a bit of a throwback to simpler times. It was safe, quiet and clean. I would recommend it.

Comfortable, old-fashioned motel (I was having nostalgia for road trips with my parents in the 60s and 70s) in great condition in a beautiful little town. I was traveling on business in Geneseo (about 20 minutes up the road), but was glad I stayed here in Perry. If you like vintage motor-hotels, you will love the Park Lake Motel!

Check in and out was super easy. The local dining recommendations made by the staff through email were good. The room was large and the beds were comfy. The room just smelled old, to the point that all of our bags/ clothes still had a smell when we returned home. We wanted somewhere close to Letchworth state park, and it was pretty close. It was fine for what we needed it for.

I’m a young solo female traveler who usually tries to avoid motels for safety reasons, but this motel was amazing. It’s in a nice quiet area, it’s clean, and I never had any concerns about safety. Would 100% book again.

Clean, cute, quiet, and easy to check in and out. It was perfect for our purposes! We had a nice stay and would recommend to anyone looking to stay in the area. 15 minute drive from SUNY Geneseo.
