Tru by Hilton Sandusky

We're happy to report that we had a great stay. A big thank you to all the staff! Pros -The price was fantastic as we stayed the day of the total eclipse! Thank you for being reasonable in what you were asking for this special event. -The room was clean and modern. -The hotel grounds are well maintained and welcoming. We thought the lobby had a fun vibe to it with the colors and Sandusky mural. -The staff was very friendly. -We loved how the soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are all mounted on the walls. -Digital check-in and check-out was great. We loved being able to pick our room! Cons -It would be helpful if there was a way to keep the hotel room door propped open while bringing luggage in from a cart in the hall. Alternatively, if you have someone hold the door or just stick to a suitcase you'll be golden. :) Things to know before you stay -While this is always subjective, we would say the mattresses are on the firm side in the double queen room we stayed in. -The rooms are on the small side which Tru advertises. They are designed well so that you still have space for everything you need. We personally liked the smaller room. -The room has a small fridge but no microwave. -Gluten free breakfast options that we saw were fruit and egg omelets. They do have oatmeal, but we weren't able to verify if it was gluten free.

Being a GM, my only regret is not having this filled out quicker. I was traveling with a high school marching band that was checked into a neighboring hotel. The accomodations were not what we were expecting and the experience was not pleasant from the moment we stepped into the lobby with many issues. I called around and spoke with Luke who was AMAZING. He held the rooms for me and whenI arrived both he and Rebecca were hard at work to make sure our stay was the best possible experience. The group of students I had were very grateful when they arrived and I cant say enough good things how they handled this last minute group. I did not get the names of the other staff members that were working but I would also like to acknowledge everyone that we encountered fromm audit to desk to breakfast to housekeeping for taking on such a group at the last minute and doing it in a friendly and professional manner. I know how hard it is to find good employees now a days and I want to make sure you know what an amazing staff you truly have.

We had a great one-night stay at Tru! We needed to stay an extra day in Sandusky unexpectedly and they were able to accommodate us at the last minute with an early check-in which was truly a lifesaver. Staff and management are friendly and helpful, rooms are clean/modern/attractive, and the breakfast buffet was excellent.

ALWAYS START WITH THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS. I should have read the reviews. A one-night stay or up-to-2-days only! I am a Diamond member. I won’t stay here again. If you have children, don’t go there. The room floors are very noisy wood-type. The poor breakfast server doesn’t receive enough money to buy fruit. Beware the yellow omelets. They contain meat. I reserved our room about 1-week in advance, and other people got into their room before we could get into ours. Yes, registration is at 4-pm, but they got in earlier. Yes, I asked for the room not to smell like chemicals because my heart patient husband has allergies, but this room was reserved days ahead of time. The staff were nice. There just weren’t enough of them. The door lock didn’t correctly work on our room. The shower door didn’t close so water went on to the floor. The shower head sprinkles or dumps-no in between. No way were we going to stop what we were doing to wait on them to fix anything. I reported that the 20-pound dumb bell weights were missing ALL WEEK. I got an “OH”. The recycle is a joke. People put trash in on top of it. Do you really think that the underpaid staff is going to dig in that can and take out the plastic amid the trash? Seriously, I expect more from a Hilton brand.

This is not a Hilton by any means. Cheap furniture and Maintenace of room was below average. Will no longer stay at a Tru. Now to good stuff, manager was all over the place, did breakfast, then seen him in housekeeping, didn't complain to him because really not his problem.
