Mr & MRS Smith Artist Residence Cornwall

I have been staying here for a number of years now whilst doing a painting course in Newlyn and fully expect to return next year. The hotel is stylish with good public spaces inside and out. Staff remain the key asset being the perfect mix of friendly and efficient. My double overlooked the back and was fine for one person but might be a squeeze for two. The bed was very comfortable and the ensuite shower was ok although it took a few minutes for the water to come up to temperature and water pressure is a bit mild. Towels are nice and fluffy, the toiletries are good and there are slippers but a bath robe would be welcome. There was a small fridge which was useful but the mini bar products were just layed out on the two shelves which are really needed for guests having them in a basket that sits on one shelf would.be better. Breakfast is not included but I did try the granola which was excellent as was the capuccino and pastry.

We stayed in the cottage as a family of five - it is a great space and perfectly equipped - cosy and characterful with enough space for us all. Dinner in the restaurant was superb and they had an excellent gluten free selection for our coeliac daughter. Highly recommended!

Really cool and quirky hotel with fabulous staff

What a difference 3 years can do to such lovely place. That I have held dear to my heart. Sometimes revisiting a place comes with regret! My review from few years ago is the complete opposite. We are greeted with lovely service, she even got the chef to get us some chips though the kitchen Just closed. It was a mix of super rude, stressed out staff to super lovely friendly staff. Over priced not worthy small cocktails- mocktails. Dairy free hot chocolate over priced & nothing to what I remembered, I ask for it pretty strong, I love strong tasting hot chocolate, to be confirmed I will try, how do do you try? It was more dairy free milky than strong. I would of gone back but being my birthday & having the best day, I wasn't going to even go and ask and to no doubt get more rudeness. Am not sure if some staff we're winding another staff member up. The vibes was all over the place. My partner wen't to pay and the strangest thing was the girl with such lovely serice on our arrival was rude out the blue to him to cause he wasn't understanding the payment procedure as it was given information on the key pad. Very mixed return

Food was excellent. Service was warm and efficient. We’ve been a few times because we are local and we are never disappointed. And great music! Have the ramen, it is great. Also save room for desserts which are fantastic. Super location in the heart of Penzance.

First of all room was lovely. Hurt my leg on the trip so saw way more of it than had initially hoped. Nice and spacious with a great bathroom. All the staff were polite and helpful and did what they could to make our trip extra special. The bar serves some great cocktails and the food at the restaurant was great, especially the white chocolate bread and butter pudding special. Would definitely recommend and come again.

Food is overpriced for what it is. Atmosphere is quirky but is quite dark in the mid part of the building with tables being very close together: made for an uncomfortable experience as felt like you were sharing your meal with the couple next to you.
