Roundthorn Country House & Luxury Apartments

This is a really good quality hotel, excellent staff. We were given a free upgrade to an Apartment. Excellent breakfast.

As a family of 8 we went to Roundthorn for Afternoon Tea. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious. We had a fussy eater with us and with pre-warning Roundthorn were fantastic at accommodating us, swapping some of our fussy person’s afternoon tea for some chips. We were very grateful for this.

4 couples, 4 big anniversaries, 140 years of marriage between us. I contacted Roundthorn as some friends had stayed there and gave it good reviews. I had quite a bit of contact with the hotel before our stay. Without exception everyone I spoke to were very helpful. All the staff during our stay were very efficient and friendly. Breakfast was very good, a good selection of dishes cooked to order and a small buffet section as well. We ate both nights in the restaurant and the food was good. I chose very well, some others maybe felt they could have chosen better but there were no complaints. The hotel very kindly put us in our own dining room on one night so that we could celebrate without worrying about other guests, not that we were particularly crazy! 1 couple stayed in the self catering accommodation and enjoyed that. The rest of us stayed in our hotel. We all had rooms at the front which enjoy fabulous views. Note: only 1 of these bedrooms has a bath so if that's important definitely check. Our bathroom had a lovely big walk in shower and 2 wash basins. The room and bed was very comfortable and we slept well, which isn't always the case when we go away. The hotel is well placed to get into Penrith without being in the town. It's a 20 minute ish journey to Ullswater. All in all it was a brilliant stay and we all enjoyed it. I hope we have the chance to return at some point.

A lovely small hotel with excellent food. The breakfast and dinner were both of very high quality. There’s a good children’s menu. The family room was spacious and comfortable and we all slept well. The service was excellent and the staff made us feel very welcome.

A beautiful building situated in a picturesque location, this hotel provided the perfect escape for our young family. Our family room was well sized, with everything we needed to accommodate our two small children (2 year old and a 10 month old). Our favourite thing about our stay was the hotel staff. We had read reviews prior to our arrival that the staff were excellent, and we couldn't agree more! Every member of staff we interacted with was warm, welcoming and kind. They went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed and also made effort to positively interact with our daughter at mealtimes. The food was excellent, portion sizes were great too!

Absolutely amazing venue! We had our wedding here and they were incredible! They organised the whole day and there was no stress for us at all! Everyone spoke about how great they were as a venue and how amazing the food was!! We stayed in both the house and the apartments and they were both amazing! Everyone loved it! Would highly recommend for the wedding venue, the food and for the rooms/apartments! Collette is a legend! Thank you so much Roundthorn!

We booked a family room and received a complimentary upgrade to a 2 bed apartment. The accommodation was beautiful and the beds were very comfy. The view was lovely. The staff were lovely with our two children. The breakfast was delicious. Thank you very much for a wonderful stay.

Venue was immaculately turned out, with beautiful gardens & lawns & stunning views of the Lake District fells & the Pennines.Staff were friendly, efficient & couldn’t do too much for you - what a happy team. Food was superb ( best wedding food I’ve eaten),wedding room looked gorgeous. Easily accommodated our 90+ guests and was ideally suited for the evening live entertainment- The Rush - what a band. Wedding organiser, Colette, was unflappable, helpful, organised and fun. Bedrooms were beautiful & I’d recommend booking the elegant spacious apartments as well.

Asked for a quiet comfortable room with a good bed and mattress; they delivered and the bath was a joy to soak in. Very good value for money and great views to boot from my room on what turned out to be an exceptionally warm May day. Staff were very friendly.
