Westmorland Hotel Tebay

Very pleasant stay, nice atmosphere in the reception area. Good ambiance generally all round

As usual very warm welcome and friendly staff. Good food. Comfiest of comfy beds so a great nights sleep

I stayed in the Tebay campsite with 2 friends on Thursday 19 June 2025. Campsite is excellent. Showers & toilets clean and well looked after. No problems there. I have stayed at the Westmorland before and eaten in the restaurant (it was all fine). This time there were 3 of us with 2 motorhomes staying at the campsite. Two weeks prior to our visit I emailed to book a table in the restaurant. I received a reply stating they were full. I thought this odd and rang again to be told the restaurant is full. When we arrived mid afternoon we went into the bar, again no problems, bar staff pleasant and chatty, beer excellent. The bar is next to hotel reception and as I was ordering my second pint I saw a couple booking a table in the restaurant. A short time later I walked to reception and asked if they had a table for 3. I was told they did and asked what time I would like. I declined a table as we had all had to bring food with us as we had been refused a booking to enjoy 'finest local ingredients including Beef & Lamb from our farm'. If you are staying in the campsite it appears we are not welcome at The Westmorland. We had looked at walking for our evening meal to The Cross Keys, Old Tebay but it's 4 miles and the last mile is A685 with no footpath. There are no other restaurant alternatives. I've emailed to ask for an explanation and suggested that if the restaurant is not open to non residents this should be made clear. I have received no reply. We are travelling to Scotland again in September and need to know the criteria for getting in the restaurant ? Campsite - excellent Hotel Bar - excellent Hotel Restaurant - we will never know Customer Service - terrible
