This is our first time visiting this place through a friend’s recommendation. Not sure what to expect as we’ve read some bad reviews but you need to experience this place for yourself to make your own conclusions. We stayed in patio 12; a two bedroom with enough space for a family of four. The rooms, kitchen, toilet were all neat & tidy. The Indian restaurant on site was very good & staff were very friendly. Pool area was neat and we used the pool & steam room. Didn’t feel crowded at all. Kids played table tennis in the hall as well. We also playing pitch & putt outside with beautiful scenery. Overall, it had everything to make our stay enjoyable. Will definitely come back again & would recommend this place. The only thing is that the carpets in the room need to be updated. They are looking old & dated.

This hotel is dirty and smelly. We were initially allocated room 8 and it had an overbearing smell of curry and spices .. I have never smelt anything so potent. So we complained, the head of cleaning came along, he couldn’t apologise enough, agreed it was inhabitable. They moved us to room 9 which did smell slightly better but it was equally as rotten (literally). Everything about it was unclean / run down and smelly. We found black long hairs everywhere , my son had a skid mark on his bed - literally ! Part of the ceiling was falling through. Do NOT eat at the onsite pub - it’s an absolute RIP off ! I’m far from tight but she charged me £4.50 for a blackcurrant soda ! I got a coffee and it was worse than dishwater. I didn’t complain just left. We went swimming , their was 2 DIRTY nappies On the floor in the changing rooms , at this point I said nah I’m not going in but my son was so excited given this was a massive part of the reason we choose to stay here. BORK- the steam room has a STRONG smell of urine .. It was absolutely filthy. I have nothing positive to say about this hotel What so ever, I have never written a negative review in my LIFE so that goes to show ! I don’t want other people to fall for the beautiful pictures online because it’s nothing like and I’d hate for children to feel let down like mine did xx

We stayed at Plas Talgarth for a 5 night summer break after having had a wonderful time at the MacDonald Forest Resort in Scotland earlier this year. The two experiences could not have been more different with Plas Talgarth being totally underwhelming, overpriced and not value for money. We stayed in a double bed apartment in the Mansion Block. We were on the top floor which was unpleasant due to the high temps, the small windows and the fan that was supplied which was so loud even on slow speed that you couldn't talk to each other. The decor within the apartment was okay but dated. The lighting was inadequate for cooking. The decor in the public areas of the block was falling off in some places and the stair treads to the top floor were loose and dangerous (your insurance company would be surprised at this safety failure). The TV was Smart but the Smart system did not work so no BBC IPlayer etc. Today you expect Smart TV services. The cooking facilities were labelled as "Kitchenette". This means the bare minimal of facilities making it more like Butlins than a Resort destination. The reason for having only 2 items of cutlery and other cooking facilities was due to guests stealing items apparently. Give me a break, you're treating us all as potential criminals! The fridge had no freezer dept so anything frozen thawed out. The oven was a micro wave oven combo placed below waist height so difficult to use unless you went down on your knees! The double bed was of standard size so not a super King Size as at Forest Resort. We didn't get one decent nights sleep. The Lobby lights were on all night and a large gap under the bedroom door allowed enough light to enter to keep you awake. There is no coffee bar or breakfast facilities on site which limits your choices. The Bar is dingy and the Curry Restaurant unappealing. We took advantage of the 4 nights for 3 offer plus an extra night and felt like going home early. This came to £158 per night and for that we expected a lot more. The whole place is tired and lacking in investment and we will not return. The Reception staff were delightfully helpful and we feel for them having to front such a poor quality establishment.

We stayed here for a week with our young son and were blown away by the stunning scenery and the excellent location — perfect for exploring the area we wanted to visit. Unfortunately, the accommodation itself fell short of expectations. The apartment was very dated and, disappointingly, not properly cleaned. Upon arrival, we found a dirty tissue on the bathroom floor, stains on the bedding, and even an earring left behind from a previous guest — all things that should have been caught by housekeeping. The mattress was extremely uncomfortable, feeling more like a bed of rocks, which made it difficult to sleep. It was so bad that we decided to leave a day early. Sadly, when we checked out, reception showed no interest in whether we had enjoyed our stay or why we were leaving ahead of schedule. The setting is beautiful, but the property is in serious need of investment in both upkeep and guest care.

Booked a family get away less than 24 hours to departure and didn’t read the reviews until after and wanted to cancel less than 24 hours after booking, glad I didn’t The apartment was fine (had the 3 bed bungalow) slight foisty smell on arrival nothing a good wipe round and windows aired didn’t sort- plenty of towels provided, toilet roll hand wash, bin bags fairy and dishwasher tabs (although SC I always take my basic cleaning bucket) all bedding clean consistent decor (slightly dated but I find the country places have that rustic look depends what you like) Positives - pitch and put on-site (right outside so I could watch the kids while doing tea) - swimming small but warm (sauna was being refurbed) - little adventure trail back of site (great for little kids and plenty of picnic benches on the walk) - fantastic views of countryside - our tv packed in first night mid way through a film but was fixed straight away next day - tennis court, small park, outdoor pool - quiet Negatives - no shop on site for basics bread butter milk nearest is the co-op/fuel station 3mile drive so stock up - didn’t try restaurant or bar - no bench on the park for parents/grandparents Things we did - Barmouth beach hour away - Labrynth centre (15 mins drive) kids loved it - adrenaline ******* canyoning (hour away) kids loved this - Corris train (15/20 mins)

I first stayed here about 20 years ago and the decline is noticeable. The place appears unloved. It is well placed for the seaside resorts of north west Wales, the mountains and steam railways. Sadly the service and maintenance are not up to standard. When we arrived the fridge freezer was running continuously to the extent there was a layer of ice on the back of the fridge and the freezer drawers were frozen shut and could not be pulled out. We spoke to reception about this on 3 days and each time we were told that we would be contacted. We never were. At the end of the week we were told the electricity bill had been reduced but no evidence could be produced. One toilet seat was badly stained, several holes in walls where equipment had been removed need filling, all staircase handrails need repainting, the ceiling around several lights had been damaged and one was hanging down.
