My 9 year old son and I recently made our first trip over to Glentress and we chose to stay at the Glentress Hotel / Riders Retreat, a venue that is perfect for those who like all things bike! We were very happy with this choice! I contacted the owner (Murray) by email prior to arriving to ask about a few things, such as parking all day before our check-in and also to notify him about my son's dairy allergy as he cannot have milk. Murray replied promptly and there were no problems at all so I was confident before arriving that we'd made the right choice. We arrived to a large Hotel car park, so we had no worries about not being able to get sorted for a day of hitting the trails. When having a break on the trails, we then decided to book a table online for the Hotel's "Handlebar and Grill" restaurant (a name my son thinks is brilliant!) with ease. We checked in during the late afternoon and made use of the secure bike storage and found the Twin Room "Glentress" to be clean, spacious and perfect for our needs. The beds, pillows, sockets and room facilities (sink is inside the room and not bathroom) are all you need for biking and apart from a slightly dodgy window hinge, which had to be closed in a certain way to completely seal - it was the only (very minor) issue. The bathroom was good and we really enjoyed having a decent shower that wasn't like the underpowered, dribbly types you get in other Hotels. It was just what we needed after a dusty day on the trails. We then went to the Handlebar and Grill for our dinner and had a very nice experience. Allergy information is clearly labelled and great care and attention to detail on this subject has been made, which is very refreshing compared to some other places we've been to. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was very good for the price. My son really enjoyed his vegan "Handlebar Hotdog", which with such a good name immediately caught his attention. We had to have a special request made to customise his Hotdog to avoid any milk inclusion and this was delivered without any fuss whatsoever. I ordered the biggest burger on the menu and was incredibly happy with my choice, it was delicious! We sat outside in the sun and had a great time, relaxing and chatting about the day's events. I then ordered a pint of the Tempest IPA and I was really taken aback by how good it was - so much so that I ordered another! Please keep it on tap! We then returned to the room to get a bit of down time and to get some sleep before another day of trail riding. Considering it is close to the busy main road, the Hotel was quiet during the evening / night and we had a very good night's sleep. The next morning, we had breakfast prepared by Murray, the owner. The poached eggs / avocado on sourdough were amazing. Breakfast choice was slightly more limited for my son but he was happy with appropriate cereal and oat milk to cater for his allergy. The coffee was so good I had a second whilst having a very good chat ab
