A very beautiful castle hotel. The dinner was also very good. It is worth staying here to feel the history of the castle and leave it with such grandeur. However, the rooms are a bit old.

I came here for a wedding which was absolutely lovely. The rooms were overall pretty good but the breakfast the next morning was most definitely not a very good breakfast. I was seated quite quickly but my cousins were stood there for nearly 30 minutes waiting to be seated because there were no clean tables. My reservation was at 9:30 and I arrived right on time checkout is at 10:30 and I was sat there with no food in front of me at 10:25. There was also a small continental breakfast but it was not restocked the whole time I was there so I had no croissants. One of my friends was told there was no room in the restaurant so she had to order food from her room which she was fine with but then was charged for eating in her room even though the receptionist told her there was no other option. The breakfast is what took 2 stars off of my stay.

We booked this hotel with a voucher for 2 nights B & B, I truly wish I had used the voucher for a different venue. The hotel was fully booked for the entire duration with weddings on both days (Friday and Saturday), this in itself was not an issue as the wedding itself is held in a part of the castle away from our room. Ah..... The room. Well on arrival a seemed positive, we stayed in room 110, and oh dear. The room was clean and tidy, but there is a loose floorboard with a nail poking through the carpet. The bathroom is dated, but functional but both taps in the basin leak, and two of the 5 spotlights were blown., again not a huge issue, BUT the room is directly next to the corridor fire door, which bangs directly onto the paper thin bedroom wall every single time someone uses it, with a wedding not finishing till 0400, you might guess how much sleep we got with constant use all night. Also some of the wedding guests decided at 0400 to have a mini party in the room opposite, cue paper thin walls and no sleep. We asked at 0900 for a room change to be told all rooms were allocated so no chance, even though there were some empty at the time and due for occupancy, there were restrictions on file about who they could give them to, we were not allowed it appears. Food was good in the brasserie, but wine and drink is very expensive. Staff were courteous, however even though we had been promised maintenance would sort the door by putting a stop on the floor to stop it banging again, nothing was done. The room was not serviced either which is poor for such a highly rated hotel. For £200 per night (b & b) I expected a much better experience, it does go to show that for all the good reviews we saw prior to booking you can't guarantee quality. We don't reccomend this hotel and will never stay here again. Look elsewhere or ensure you don't get room 110 if you must stay here.

Our daughter has her wedding reception here after a church wedding. It's a fairy tale venue so grest for photos but.... an adult family member in a wheelchair could not access the reception - because he was unable to get out of his wheelchair and sit on a stairlift. Staff handing out welcome drinks completely ignored him and his fiance, who was also in a wheelchair. They ended up having to eat seperately downstairs in the restaurant! When I raised the issue I was told repeatedly that all the wedding reception was on one level! It doesn't really matter if you can't get to that level in the first place. The meal was really good but spoilt by staff who were then stacking up tables and chairs after the wedding meal - while the bride was still in there - because they had 7 weddings in 7 days! That should not have affected our one special day - which they were very happy to take a lot of money for. In the morning the stair lift to the restaurant broke so other older guests could not access the restaurant - and one was stranded up there. I would not recommend unless your guests can all easily get up and down steps and you are happy to pay a fortune yet still feel like you are just another one in a series of weddings.

We have been very lucky to stay here twice before. 2012 “Amazing “ 2018 “ not so good “ Just home from our stay : October 2024 “sadly won’t be going back “ Very disappointed 🥺 the sad condition of our room 106 also Very dated and bathroom not in a good condition. Have raised this with the staff before leaving. Very limited tea/ coffee room tray . Breakfast menu : be mindful of extra charges on the breakfast list . Meal and drinks in the 2020 brasserie felt over priced also a 7.5% service charge . Both nights wedding guest and music NOISE till early hours of the morning both outside the building and in hotel corridors . Staff were very helpful and apologetic .

Terrible, it difficult to know where to start. Check in was chaotic, staff unhelpful and rude. Room was awful, window wouldn’t stay open, floor creaked so very badly and could so easily be rectified, the carpet was worn, the mattress dipped so badly and the room smelt of food from the restaurant as it was just by the extraction unit. The restaurant was cold and felt like we were sitting in a corridor. When we did go to bed there was a wedding going on just down the stairs from our room 101 ( very apt to be honest), almost felt the disco was actually in our room. Breakfast was quite good but we did go down early because of the dreaded wedding party. On check out the receptionist just expected us to pay the bill without us first seeing a copy and added on gratuities regardless. Extremely presumptuous I feel. I was expecting so much more from what was such a grand establishment. When I emailed with regard to all the issues that had arisen I expected the management to have the curtesy to reply how wrong I was. I very much doubt I will have a return visit.
