We booked this hotel with a voucher for 2 nights B & B, I truly wish I had used the voucher for a different venue. The hotel was fully booked for the entire duration with weddings on both days (Friday and Saturday), this in itself was not an issue as the wedding itself is held in a part of the castle away from our room. Ah..... The room. Well on arrival a seemed positive, we stayed in room 110, and oh dear. The room was clean and tidy, but there is a loose floorboard with a nail poking through the carpet. The bathroom is dated, but functional but both taps in the basin leak, and two of the 5 spotlights were blown., again not a huge issue, BUT the room is directly next to the corridor fire door, which bangs directly onto the paper thin bedroom wall every single time someone uses it, with a wedding not finishing till 0400, you might guess how much sleep we got with constant use all night. Also some of the wedding guests decided at 0400 to have a mini party in the room opposite, cue paper thin walls and no sleep. We asked at 0900 for a room change to be told all rooms were allocated so no chance, even though there were some empty at the time and due for occupancy, there were restrictions on file about who they could give them to, we were not allowed it appears. Food was good in the brasserie, but wine and drink is very expensive. Staff were courteous, however even though we had been promised maintenance would sort the door by putting a stop on the floor to stop it banging again, nothing was done. The room was not serviced either which is poor for such a highly rated hotel. For £200 per night (b & b) I expected a much better experience, it does go to show that for all the good reviews we saw prior to booking you can't guarantee quality. We don't reccomend this hotel and will never stay here again. Look elsewhere or ensure you don't get room 110 if you must stay here.
