Located on the Vale de Paúl stream bed just a few hundred meters up from the Atlantic, Casa Sams is truly one of a kind. The 1 bedroom apartment that I booked was great -- spacious living/dining room and kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and a really comfortable bedroom that included black-out shades to ensure a nice deep sleep. The views from the apartment and its balcony are breath-taking -- if you wake early enough to catch sunrise, you can see wonderful views of the morning sun on distant mountain tops, which some days might also be covered by low clouds. Service is also amazing -- very generous breakfasts that came with the booking are served in your apartment; mine included fresh home grown papaya, eggs and even a cake made from couscous (a Cape Verdean specialty, I am told). Senhora Sams, the host, could not have been more welcoming. Please include Vale De Paul and Pombas on your trip to Santo Antão Island, and please if you can, stay at the lovely and very reasonably price Casa Sams
