Carnegie House

Beautiful hotel, very clean (which to me is super important) very spacious rooms. Quiet, easy to park, close to everything, but you need a car to get around. The restaurants were closed for a private event, but the front desk person made some excellent recommendations for dinner.

I stayed at the property from July 15 to July 16. We arrived early at approximately 2:30 PM on the 15th and were informed by the front desk clerk that housekeeping would be expedited and our room would be ready shortly. However, we were not able to check in until 4:05 PM. Upon check-in, we were told that there was damage to the closet and that maintenance would be sent to address it. In reality, the issue was with the front door, which could not be fully closed—posing a significant security concern. Later that night, at 11:45 PM, a staff member from the front desk knocked on our door and woke us up, stating there had been a noise complaint and that he needed to enter the room. I explained that we had just been asleep and there had been no noise coming from our room. The following morning, I spoke with the front desk again and was told that someone would contact me regarding a discount for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, I never received a follow-up call. I also sent an email to the property, but did not receive a response. Overall, I was very disappointed with the level of service and the lack of follow-through on the part of the staff.

Poor experience. Check in receptionist stated he would let us know when our room was ready and implied it would be a short wait. We decided to change our afternoon plans. He continued to tell us it would be ready shortly. He also could not answer many questions about the local area. Did not offer us pool towels or a key to access the community center across the street. We found out later that should be standard information and accommodations offered at checkin. After 2.5 hours of waiting, they did staff changeover and the new receptionist told us our room would not be ready at 4pm, which is the contract agreement for check in time. We ended up getting changed in the bathroom in order to make our tee time at toftrees. The staff made no attempt to make this right or offer any type of compensation. Nor did they apologize for the room not being ready. For the price per night and overall cost of this hotel, the staff and overall experience did not match my expectations. I would look elsewhere for lodging in state college.

Recently thoroughly redone with taste and care beyond what corporate chains are capable of, although bottled water would have been appreciated. Whistle clean, and when a closet door acted up maintenance appeared within minutes. There was minor noise audible early evening, nothing unusual but it wasn't a lively football weekend, either. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, fully equal to what we expect at five-star resorts. We didn't sample the bar or restaurant, but plan to correct this on our next visit.

So comfortable! The front desk customer service was incredible. That shower, I could have stayed in forever! Great robes, just perfect. Great attention to detail everywhere you look. Parking was easy. The Molton Brown toiletries are the best.
