The 1857

We stayed in #600, the condo. Our space was a one bedroom, 1-1/2 bath condo located about a block away from the main hotel. There is a long flight of stairs to get to the room (25 steps to be exact), but the room itself is very clean and nice. There is a full kitchen, living area, small dining room, separate, large bedroom and back balcony. Parking is on site behind the condo. Pretty much everything in downtown Paducah is within a short walk. Our room had a king size bed and large shower. While quiet for the most part, traffic was noisy at periods during the day/night (see below). A few things kept me from giving this room five stars. Maybe I’m being nit-picky, but for $200+ a night, these issues should be addressed: The bedroom has a small window. At night, a street light shines right in and is a beacon. I stuffed a throw pillow in the window, which helped somewhat, but there should be a window covering. Both bathrooms have a light/fan that turn on when you walk in. That’s nice, but they never go off. Sometimes you can manually turn them off, but sometimes you can’t and they run and run and run all night long. We had no tissues or hand soap at two the of sinks in the living area. The half bath is a toilet closet and doesn’t have a sink, so it’s logical to wash your hands at the bar area or kitchen sink. We got tissues because we picked them up ourselves, but they never delivered hand soap, despite calling us to see if they could enter the room to deliver it. On Friday and Saturday night, the bars close and motorcycles and loud cars leave at around 1:30 a.m. They are loud and the noise lasts for 15-30 minutes. I understand that is not the hotel’s fault, but it bears mentioning.

We enjoy staying in older hotels because they have such a unique character. This one was right downtown in a historical area, but it still had plenty of parking in a public lot behind it. The check-in staff were very helpful and friendly. It was very clean. Being an older building, there were some slightly unusual elements. The shower was in a small room with no door, so our floor got wet the first time we used it. The lighting was a little dark. The Edison bulbs were great for character, but very hard to see to read. I would definitely stay there again.

I booked our room one year in advance & paid 100 percent for the 2024 Quilt Show. Three days prior I had a horrible accident, & emailed & called to cancel. I was expecting to pay the first night as a penalty but it is 100 percent non refundable. I asked if they would just reserve my room for next years quilt show. I explained that due to surgery I would not be able to fly to Kentucky to use the rooms. They would have my fully paid for service for two years. I am sure they are not full next year but the answer was no. Somehow I thought a name like one of America’s best small hotels or a name like 1875 would value their customers & be kinder. Probably best to book a national brand that has a better policy once they take 100 percent of payment.

It was a very, very cute place. However, you could hear everything outside and from the rooms next to you. I was woken up around midnight when a large group was going to their room. The sounds of the footsteps up the stairs was so loud and then I could hear their entire conversation when they got to their room. It could have just been our room but if you are coming for a business trip and need sleep, you might not get it. The staff was nice, shower and bath were awesome!

What a gem in a cute town in North West Kentucky. We were on a road trip down Great River Road and veered off to visit this town as we wanted to check out Metropolis across the river. This quaint and unique hotel exceeded our expectations not only with design but also with comfort and s that rainforest shower set so high truly was the best rainforest shower set up I ever experienced. This is a very nice small boutique hotel right in downtown Paducah, walking distance to the Quilt Museum, Railroad Museum, the Freight House restaurant, waterfront, etc. Very nice room at a quite reasonable rate. Highly recommend it to anyone wanting to be right in downtown Paducah. Only recommendation to make is to be careful about the room they put you in; our room (#101) has a long glass wall right on the sidewalk. While it was quiet when we were there on a Tuesday night, I could imagine it could get quite noisy on a weekend night. The other rooms are set back from the sidewalk and appeared to be much quieter.

This hotel is between Freight House which is the best restaurant in the region, and the local nightlife. Perfect location. The rooms are unique and comfortable. Our group enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it.

We stayed one night and had a room on the second floor. Staff were extremely helpful and our room was lovely and clean. There are several places to eat within walking distance and the wall at the river is covered in fascinating paintings.we happened to be there when a riverboat was docked so walked down and talked with their staff about their boat. I will go back there

My 2nd time to stay in the last 12 months. Both times I had a wonderful stay, friendly staff, rooms are unique and trendy restaurants across the street. Also a block away from the river which is a great walk.
