Splendido Bay Luxury Spa Resort

Beautiful hotel, with nice pool area. Nice lake for walking and sunset watching. The room size was good, modern design & beautifully decorated. The staff were very helpful. The breakfast was good.

We read a review before we left about the location. It’s about 50 minutes from Desenzano centre and so we hired a car as taxis were difficult to find. Someone said there are only 13 taxis in the main town and none in Padenghe. The room we had was lovely and spacious and couldn’t fault that and we did ask and receive a garden facing room at the end of the ground floor. The staff were very friendly and helpful including sorting out a dentist for my wife. The pool was great and no shortage of beds and towels. The only downsides for us was a meal at the BBar restaurant where the steak was served cold and when told it came back lukewarm. We also ate lunch once at the pool and that was also disappointing so we didn’t eat at the hotel again. I was expecting the staff at the pool bar to go around and see if anyone wanted drinks but it seems you had to go to them. Big shout out to David’s at reception who was extremely helpful both before and during our stay.

This is a decent hotel. Generally staff are nice and friendly, though not all are easily approachable. The gardens, pool area are all quite nice. Pool staff good, service good. To be fair, on the right day, right weather, it is a fantastic setting overlooking the Lake. Our room was spacious, clean, great shower. Although we were in the annex wing above the kitchen and often the kitchen smells within the bathroom (not bedroom) were quite nauseating. A very big issue was the in room air con, very, very noisy and to compound matters pretty ineffective. Not good at all. They charge €50 / day for a Hotel guest to hire a bike - seems a rip off to me being honest. For the size of the Hotel the gym is poor in size & equipment. On an evening, they close (lock) the guest public toilets so you have to go back to your room 🤔. The first night we took the free shuttle to their fish restaurant, the food was very good - the service was very poor. Our starters arrived, the table had not been cleared from our aperitif and oysters, the wine had not arrived, it was a bit of a shambles. I pointed this out to the waiter who was trying to position our starters amidst all of this, grudgingly he seemed to get it, but things did not get much better. They were incredibly attentive to one couple (local not hotel guests) and the rest…..were forgotten, it appeared. There is a GM sitting in a small glazed office off reception, he never looks, smiles or speaks to guests, I find that incredible 😳 he appeared at the hotel bar one evening, guests milling around, one bar man quite stressed but doing a good job, the manager never spoke to anyone other than the bar man (who was already speaking to a guest) clearly told him he wanted a drink, then walked off back to his office with his glass of fizz!!! Asking concierge for local info was pretty fruitless, did not know much about anything. The role of a concierge is to provide a font of local knowledge and advice for guests….not here I’m afraid. Breakfast was quite good, plenty of choice and breakfast staff all very pleasant and helpful. Maurizio runs a good team. They have a meat restaurant on site, great food, service was better there too (than the off site fish restaurant). But turn up as a hotel guest without a booking and you are clearly frowned upon! Being completely fair, which is always my endeavour, the food throughout is very good across the piece, great chefs👏🏻. The only disappointing food was a salad Nicoise at the pool bar, they completely forgot the tuna, the boiled potatoes, and skimped on the boiled egg. All in all it is a nice hotel, just has a few quirky issues, and very poor general management, it is clear that all the ‘staff’ work hard, are really very nice and want to make everything right for guests - the ‘suits’ which starts at reception, duty management can seem somewhat aloof, which is never appreciated when choosing and paying to stay in a hotel.
