Seven Gables Inn on Monterey Bay, A Kirkwood Collection Hotel

My wife and I paid $2,170. for four nights. $542. per night. So this should have been a luxury experience? The room, the grounds, the view beautiful. However the sevice was probably the worst of any hotel or B&B we've ever stayed in. The do not clean the room daily, or make the bed, or deliver clean linen, or deliver dried towels (even after several days) or provide new coffee packets or empty the waste baskets. They don't even clean the bathroom. You run out of anything you have to go get it someplace on the grounds. The breakfast was about the same as a budget motel. Plus the attitude of front desk personal was beyond horible. The expect you to get your own dry towels, your own coffee, and I guess clean your own room bathroom. But they do offer a cleaning service if requested at an additional cost. This is all burried somewhere in the fine print. We were so shocked at the lack of service I checked with a few other high end B&B's nearby and they included with out any additional charge all of the above daily. The only reason I gave them two stars was the view and the room design. They did provide us with one cleaning after two days although I had to complain to get this and it took management approval. They get a zero for service.

After an intense research for a weekend in the Carmel/Monterey area we decided on the Seven Gables Inn. It is pricey AND well worth it. The location in Pacific Grove directly on the coast is beautiful. Despite being located on the coastal main street it is very quiet and you enjoy a restful sleep even with the windows open. The breakfast (hot/cold) was great and served in one of the wonderfully decorated rooms featuring large windows overlooking the bay. Exterior and interior match (Victorian style) but decorations are comfy and not overdone. Rooms and the Garden were VERY clean and well kept. You can tell that somebody has their eye out for detail. The whole place has a relaxing and comfy atmosphere. The reception stays in contact via SMS, so we learned that we were able to check in around 1 pm instead of 4 pm. We will likely return for another weekend in the area to the Seven Gables Inn.

The hospitality here was outstanding! Excellent B&B atmosphere, with a wine hour in the main house as well as evening pastries. Breakfast options were delicious and included some gluten-free options as well. On street parking was easy and scenery beautiful! 10/10 Will definitely stay here again!

Clean, boutique place with terrific views. The staff didn’t seem to be interested in doing anything to add to the hotel though.

By far one of the best B&Bs I have ever visited. It was charming, classy and the service was amazing. The shower was the best!
