Pacific Grove Inn

Cheap and cozy place in Monterey. It was self checkin and the remote front desk was very patient and friendly. The room and the entire house are vintage in a good looking way, which is also very suitable to take pictures.

This hotel is absolutely amazing. It's been remodeled inside beautifully with a style of Old World luxury. We had a Queen suite that was very warm, inviting and comfortable. It has great amenities, a sitting room, fireplace, wine and cheese early evening, and breakfast included as well. The hotel managers are on site, Ian and his lovely wife, and were extremely friendly and helpful. Wonderful downtown Pacific Grove was less then a 10 min walk, with fabulous restaurants and shops. The beach was right down the street as well. We will be back with our family before summers end. This will be our "Go-to" place to stay when we come to Pacific Grove.

Great location. Beautiful building. Rooms were nice and clean but somewhat dated. Heat thermostat did not seem to work but there were extra blankets. Was a bit skeptical of the place when I learned there was no one onsite. If I wanted an AirBnB experience then I would have booked one. However, everything worked out except for the heater (and at 10 pm I was not going to call with help an hour away). Overall, it seems like the place could be amazing but is trying to figure out the lowest cost method of running the place. I would suggest spending a bit more money by fixing light switches (some were missing), investing in two ply toilet paper, and having tea/hot water available. I would return but would expect lower prices.

The best part was the proximity to the event I was attending this Mother's Day weekend which started Friday night. The quality of this Inn is shabby, unacceptable low grade everything. Examples 1. the soap in the bathroom was an old bottle of Dial soap which I did not touch. 2. the rug in the bedroom was so old, filthy and borderline rotten that I wore shoes and only took them off getting into the bed. 3. The towel rack in the bathroom was something out of the prison system. It was a worn iron rack that was borderline scary because it looked like some kind of torture rack from a horror movie. I'm not exaggerating. I was told there would be coffee available in a small room at the bottom of the steps; there was no sign of any coffee for the 2 nights I stayed there. There was no parking available for the first night I stayed. All spots were filled except for a handicap spot. I left my Iphone charging cord in the outlet when I left, called and spoke to someone who could care less. It was never returned to me which means a maid stole it. It did not disappear by itself. The light switch in the bedroom was so bright even when turned off, that when you go to sleep, it lights up half the bedroom and there is no way to turn it off. The bathtub mat which did not fit properly in the bathtub was filthy, worn and needs to be replaced. The lamps next to the bed in the bedrrom are so worn and shabby that they look like beat up lamps at a Goodwill Center, cheap garbage. The TV remote does not work. You have to call several times to get permission to check out at 11am instead of 10am which is their checkout time. Then the maid who never got the message will bang on your door in the 10 o'clock hour and then you have to tell her you're checking out at 11am instead of 10am. There are 2 electrical outlets in the room so you have to unplug the lamp if you want to use more than 1 outlet. I wouldn't stay there again for free. Overpriced, borderline slum hotel.

Perfect pvernight retreat Quiet, nice view of ocean from balcony, great walk to lover's point and dinner at Fandango.
