Gasthof Hotel Schiffsmeisterhaus

An unpretentious guest house. Excellent food, service and outdoor seating area for eating. We were in room 10 that had a large modern bathroom with bath tub and separate shower unit. Would definitely recommend this guest house. Stayed over on our Passau to Vienna cycle ride by tandem. Good, safe bike storage

Similar to many of the reviews on this site we were booked into this hotel for our cycling holiday along the Danube Cycle Path. Although the building itself is old with an interesting history, it is modern inside whilst maintaining some of its old features. The staff were very welcoming, accommodating and helpful. Our room was comfortable and spacious . We ate dinner there in the Stübel and it was one of the two best dinners I had on our trip. There is a pleasant walk through the (small) town and a climb up the hill behind the hotel to the church with marvellous views across the valley. You have two options to approach Ardagger on the Danube Cycle path travelling towards Vienna. Either on the right bank where it appears the route deviates from the bank of the river along local roads and passes through Ardagger. Or along the left bank, the route we took, which takes you past Artdagger but on the other side of the river. You cycle on towards Grein and cross the river at a bridge just before Grein immediately doubling back on the other bank to approach Artdagger for the other direction.

Typical Gasthouse, family ovned and managed business. Friendly coasy atmosphere. Authentic style rooms and equipment. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea. We were there for one night business purpose in the area. So the desk was thiny and working an the computer during night was limited, but WiFi worked great. There were a lot of cyclists and I think that for active holidays that is the place to stay. I would expect more local food choice at the breakfast. But averall everything was OK and the staff was friendly and charming.
