Swantown Inn Bed and Breakfast is located just a few minutes off I-5 in a residential area where the gingerbreading on this Victorian home seems appropriate. Hosts Nathan and Casey welcomed me into the cosy ambience of a Victorian home. Entering is like “Coming home to a place I’d never been before” to borrow a line from John Denver’s song. I was amazed at how the immersion in a bygone era is very relaxing, just by entering a home filled with Victorian nostalgia, a house built in a time of gentility and civility, including the hospitality of the hosts. The experience of staying there was period authentic down to the breakfast included. This is not one of the ostentatious Victorian mansions usually featured in historic tours, such as the Port Townsend tour of the former residences of late 1800s ‘lumber barons,' but instead a return to a time of gracious living that makes modern day cares fade away. I felt I returned to a time when home was where you came to relax after a workday, surrounded by family and a décor that celebrates family and life lived well, not extravagantly. A Victorian era history buff would really enjoy staying at this inn but I recommend this experience for anyone who needs a vacation, even a single day of rest and relaxation. PS – the beds are wonderfully comfortable!
