Ashore Resort & Beach Club

Lovely place with a great location. Very clean overall with helpful, kind staff. King bed was super comfy. The lack of shower doors wasn't our favorite and we had a lot of sand in our room from the previous guests I'm assuming. Also, asking any questions to the hotel prior to arrival via app or text, they don't seem to respond. Just keep resend the same generic text from the manager.

I was eager to try the Ashore after many years staying here when it was a Clarion. On the whole, they have done a terrific job. The amenities were terrific and nicer than what you find at Ocean City’s aging resorts, from the pool to the beach bar to the restaurant and tap house to the nice takeaway snacks and sundries shop. I tried a couple of crushes from the beach bar and they were delicious! The atrium lounge they have created is absolutely beautiful and a wonderful spot to hang out in. The beach butler was a big draw for me, since I hate dragging a chair and umbrella to/from the beach even if I’m staying oceanfront. And while the equipment Ashore offers is fine, this is their biggest area for improvement. First, guests cannot be allowed to claim chairs and umbrellas at sunrise and not return for hours. This ruins access for early birds (like me) who wish to use the equipment early and will likely be gone by the time the chair claimers return. Secondly, there is no process to confirm that the person requesting equipment is an Ashore guest. I heard one group laughing that they were able to get free chairs and umbrellas even though they were staying in a nearby building. That isn’t fair to paying guests who are told by late morning that all chairs and umbrellas have been taken. Ashore should adopt the policies you see at high end resorts. One reusable beach butler chair pass is given to each paying guest or room resident, as well as one umbrella pass per 2 or 4 guests, at check in to be used for their stay (with a $50 or so penalty per pass if any pass is lost). Each guest needs to show up with their pass in hand in order to get chairs and umbrellas — I.e. one person can’t come down at sunrise and reserve a huge spot. And there should be signage that says any area left unattended for an hour will have personal items removed and stored by the beach butler staff. If you want to swim, go for a walk, etc great — but just don’t claim chairs and an umbrella until you return and will actually be using them. This of course requires a bit more management and monitoring by the beach butler staff, but the people I met seemed very capable of doing this.
