Tidelands Caribbean Boardwalk Hotel and Suites

I will go ahead and give this one star because the hotel is in a great location. Aside from that I have nothing good to say. From the uninterested, rude or just miserable staff at the front desk depending on who was there, to the bathroom with the toilet that consistently ran and the shower which screeched a high pitch noise unlike anything I’ve heard before, I was left unimpressed and very unhappy. The worst part was when we entered the rooms (I paid for 2 Oceanview Suites), we had washcloths and hand towels, but literally NO bath towels. We called the front desk to request towels, but never received any. We went floor to floor asking members of the cleaning staff for towels and they didn’t have any either! I literally had to go out and purchase towels so we could properly bathe. The hotel finally delivered towels to our room after we had been there for well over 24 hours. One of our rooms also had a damp, moldy, stale smell to it and the balcony was super small, the chairs were disgustingly dirty and it was hard to open and close the balcony door. This was a long overdue family vacation and we were not happy with this experience at all. Aside from the location, the only other positive was the hotel restaurant which was really good.

The room was clean and had plenty of space. The bathroom was decent, shower made a very high pitched whining noise while running. The flapper in the toilet tank was so bad I had to adjust it so it would seal so the toilet filled again to stop the constant running. The door to the balcony was very hard to open and close, track was very dirty. Was unable to adjust the temperature in the mini fridge, sometimes was cool, sometimes was barely cold. Went to use the roof pool on Saturday and there was a small group of young adults using the pool area, there was beer cans, ashes from smoking and other containers around the deck. Some of the chairs were not in great shape. Would like a small broom or some kind of mat so we could wipe our feet of tracked sand before getting in bed.

After one night in another hotel that did not meet our expectations, we were able to book at Tidelands last minute at a great rate, saving us from a nightmare! The young lady at the front desk (I think her name was Polina??) was extremely helpful!! The room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. The kids loved the rooftop pool while the hubby and I relaxed in the lounge chairs. The location was excellent, right on the boardwalk and within a few minutes walk to convenience stores.

During check in front desk staff weren't the friendliest. Given room key, room # and pointed where to go. Never told where the alternative lots to park were given the garage was full. This was our second year staying here so we did know where to go. Upon arrival to the family suite room facing the pool the room smelled awful, we had zero towels and no linens for the pull out couch. Made a call to the front desk and was told they would call housekeeping. Unable to unpack due to the smell near the kitchenette area, we opened the balcony door to help with the smell. Waited awhile for housekeeping so walked to the front desk to get towels and linens and ask about a different room and was rudely told housekeeping was called, they were booked that day and would need to wait. Went back to room and housekeeping arrived stating they were there to clean our toilet. Called the front desk again and said housekeeping wasn't told that and she said she told them and not sure why they would say that and trust they will do their job. Housekeeping then called maintenance due to the smell and ended up the fridge was bad leaking fluid everywhere and needed to be cleaned and replaced. Housekeeping returned later with the towels and linens. 2 pillowcases were dirty and needed replaced again. The couch was very dirty. Beds were clean but the bed skirts were falling off with old wrappers underneath. The door to the balcony was smeared with small handprints all over it. Bathroom was ok. We stayed here the prior year with no issues so this was disappointing. I brought my own cleaning supplies, broom and paper towels. After a few hours the smell was subsiding and were then able to fully unpack. Once all the issues were taken care of the rest of the stay was fine. Overall an ok stay this time.

We came back to Tidelands this year after a great experience last year - friendly staff, roomy rooms, super convenient location - and booked a kitchenette this year but were disappointed. The bar-size refrigerator didn't meet our needs as a family and the burners on the stove top were dangerously misaligned. There was only a small, round card table for eating which did not accommodate more than two people and our ice bucket didn't even have a lid. An upgrade to the kitchenette and a table that seats four would have been better appreciated.

Only having one elevator sure slowed things down especially with check in/out. Other than that it was a great place to stay and a great location
