Classic style, very clean, very nice staff, highly recommended sunset on the terrace

the stay was decent. What stands out from all the similar properties is really really really good bed (double bed turned out to more of a superking), nice size tv (50+ inch), sockets with USB are a bonus. interior design is subjective to taste but its not my priority at this price. I guess one can highlight fresh furniture. Bathroom: Clean shower, standard number of towels and shower mat, hair drier, heated towel rack, shampoo/soap/body lotion and soap bar. Waiting staff was very nice and helpful. Breakfast: the breakfast is usual full Scottish breakfast variety buffet, (fried eggs, black pudding, hashbrowns, scones, sausages, bacon, beans) with plenty condiments available as well as 3 types of toast, couple of cheeses and hams, fruit salad, yoghurts, various sweet pastries. Full set of teas, jams honeys etc, but coffee could be a little better, but again cannot complaint at price. The hotel it is definitely underrated. While some things around hotel are a little flimzy, dusty, it is very decent value. it all fades away when you realise how nice it is to have a fresh large bed and that it is basically minutes away from ferry terminal. Great views are come as a big bonus. Note for parking: very limited, but you can park at council carpark not far away at reasonable cost.

All the front desk personnel are the best asset this hotel has. The place could do with an update of their appliances and furniture in their rooms. Soft furnishings are ok. The cleanliness could be a bit better. They lent me slippers so I could use the steam room and it was a great addition to my stay. Overall I give the place a 3/5.

Having read some very negative reviews I was uneasy about the booking which our group had made to stay here for several nights. What did I find ? Friendly welcoming staff, warm, spacious comfortable rooms and breathtaking views over the bay. Service in the dining room was good and the breakfast buffet offered a good range of hot and cold choices. The hotel lacks the uniformity of a corporate chain hotel but that's part of it's charm. It's not perfect but it was more than adequate for our needs. Would happily stay here again.

it's a shame the hotel currently doesn't offer evening meals, as after a long journey the last thing we felt like was trying to find some where to have an evening meal. the hotel was very clean, comfortable & staff were friendly & helpful. the bathroom in the room we were in was small & compacted but functional, with the advantage of a large shower. the bar was always empty so didn't feel like being the only 2 in the bar so we didn't have any drinks, we didn't have breakfast it looked & smelt lovely. Feel it would have been a different experience if evening meal were being served. its a great location, saying this if in the area would use again

The old hotel was quite dated but did not disappoint, The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was a buffet breakfast which you help yourself to whatever you wish A good selection of hot food and also the food selection of continental food was good also, 5 star breakfast. Evening meal very good also would return again just for the food. Great location in the centre of town close to all amenities. Don't let other bad views of this hotel put you off as this hotel is good value for money.
