Ocean Crest Motel

AC & Heating Unit The AC & Heat unit smelled like humid, old towel, urine smell, and filter/ blades on vane, was not clean...so the smell was rancid. We turned on the ceiling fan and opened the window and front door, and was able to finally turned AC/heat unit off, and smell out of room only few hours, by 11pm, we close door and went sleep with ceiling fan and no heat,ok. Broom and dirty dustpan in room, so we no hang up clothes or put shoes. There is no extra blanket, so I sleep with my jacket and hoodie for warm. But nice view,close to beach and pier. Nice staff, happy and good smile. If I go to OKI again, I will stay there again, maybe next time I check ac and heater 1st. Thank you 👍

A much needed respite My husband recently passed and my family desperately needed some down time. We got that in spades at Ocean Crest. Extremely clean..nice pool and very short walk to the beach and the pier. The only snag we hit was quickly handled by maintenence with a smile. We will be back

Pros: (1) You can not beat this location. This motel is literally just a few feet from the beach. We really love the size of Oak Island's beach and the fact that it was not crowdy at all during the week of July 4. (2) The beds were just double size but comfortable. (3) The room was clean. (4) Ladies in the office were helpful. Cons: (1) Even though there are fees for smoking, it seems like almost everyone around us were smoking but us. We could not enjoy sitting outside on the shared walkway because of all the smoke. My oldest son's hotel room reeked of strong smoke odor as soon as he first opened the door. (2) The hotel rooms were small and very plain compared to most hotel chains. (3) We were supposed to have an oceanfront room with a view, but on the first floor you do not have much of a view except of the pier and sand dune unless you are standing up and tall.
