We checked in mid-afternoon after a long day on the Camino de Santiago. We were really looking forward to cleaning-up and exploring the hotel and Pontevedra, but quickly ran into problems once we got to our room. I noticed a musty smell upon entering the room and figured that came with staying in a historic building. It turns out the musty smell was caused by the shower drain being completely clogged, something we discovered after the shower flooded the bathroom while we tried to figure out how to get hot water (turns out the hot water function on the shower was broken too). I went to the front desk where I hoped they would switch us to another room since we checked-in early enough where they should have had another room to move us to, but the person at check-in elected to contact hotel maintenance, telling me someone would be up shortly. The maintenance person eventually arrived and unclogged the shower drain. I asked the maintenance person how to get hot water, and that’s when he discovered there was a problem with the mixing valve. That took more time to fix. Overall it was at least 30 minutes between the time we checked-in to when we where finally able to take a shower. The front desk should have switched us to another room immediately. I expect better from a hotel such as the Parador to justify their relatively expensive room rates. If you do decide to stay here, the beds are quite firm (not great for side-sleepers), and the bathroom was very poorly lit (as in mostly-dark). The room as a whole is furnished nicely, and climate control worked well. The hotel is located near many restaurant options, and is located close to the Camino path.
