AI Summary
Located centrally in Nuuk, the hotel boasts friendly staff, excellent breakfast, lovely decor, and convenient access to city amenities. However, some may find the piano bar noise disturbing.

If you like to go to night clubs and you don't go to bed till after 1:00 a.m. this is a good hotel choice for you. However if have to go to bed before 1:00 a.m. because you have an early morning flight or you just like to go to bed before 1:00 a.m. then avoid this hotel all costs. You will not get any sleep until past 1 an with all the thumping through the walls and loud music

There are no hotel chains in Nuuk so I was forced to pick an independent hotel, the one which is supposed to be best in the city, or at least, the most expensive. Next time I would choose differently. Our room was not bad and could be considered to be a nice Four Points or Hilton Garden Inn for example. But once again an independent hotel comes up short compared to international hotel chains, even if I compare to low level hotel brands: (1) There was construction work ongoing, I was not informed when I booked. The compensation to all guests was a glass of wine. That's inadequate in my humble opinion, heck in many chain hotels we get a welcome drink as a matter of due course, not as compensation. Construction was noisy and an outdoor lift had workers peeking into our room - no privacy. (2) Our room type was "polar class" which is more expensive than the cheapest room type. So they try to market polar class like a club/executive room of chain hotels but the benefits of polar class were very weak: a bowl of nuts in the room upon arrival and a bathrobe, which is standard at chain hotels anyway. Especially in Greenland, a bathrobe should be included for all guests for hotel which costs 300 USD per night. (3) Breakfast was included for everybody which is normally not a good sign in terms of quality. I would say it was not as bad as Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express food, but not significantly above either. There was no service in the restaurant whatsoever. Nobody to assign us a table or serve coffee, guests would just walk in and do as they please. In fact it was not even a restaurant anyway due to construction, but rather a sterile and unpleasant conference room. The buffet was mediocre and nothing that stood out. (4) They tried to charge me for a roll-away bed at check-out. I said no way, I was given a price quote when I booked so this is what I will pay. Also no mention at check-in of any roll-away bed charge. The receptionist kept saying "nothing is free". I could clearly see their money grab attempt. I stood my ground - I am not paying for undisclosed charges. He said I booked only for 2 adults. I responded that the hotel knew exactly we were coming here with children because the extra bed was already in the room when we arrived! So they cannot claim they did not know. He finally gave up and I did not need to pay, thankfully. But the conversation was not pleasant. The result they get is a guest walking away unhappy. In summary, despite some reasonably good points to this hotel like the roof top bar which was lovely, this hotel is exhibit A why I almost prefer to pick a chain hotel which treats me well over an independent hotel which petulantly believes itself to be full service but where I am often treated at best like a generic no-name, and sometimes worse, like here. Next time I would save money and stay at a more basic hotel in Nuuk and possibly be treated just the same, or take a look at what AirBnB has t

The good: - Central location with a grocery store across the street, great restaurants a short walk away, and a taxi stand in front. - Two (though expensive) restaurants on the top floor, and a great (though expensive) bar on the top floor with good views of the city. Tisha was a fantastic bartender. - Free breakfast buffet has good variety, though the coffee is tasteless. - Super friendly staff. Everyone speaks fairly solid English. - The WiFi is fast and reliable. The shower got hot quickly. The elevators were quick. The bad: - I found the beds to be painfully uncomfortable. Too narrow, not enough padding, you only get 1 small pillow per bed, and one duvet which bakes you underneath (which would be nice in the winter, but in the summer I’d expect lighter sheets). - The rooms are designed to hold heat, which again would be great in the winter. But in the summer, even with the temps peaking at about 55 degrees, the room gets quite warm and stuffy. You can open a small window about 1” but that barely helps, especially if the wind is light. I really wish there were a fan to help circulate air. And if you open that window, you’ll hear street noise. I heard people (mostly drunk) yelling at each other outside until 3 am every night. - There’s currently a lot of construction going on during the day. It got loud at times. The hotel comps you for this with a ~$15 drink voucher, which seems a little cheap—maybe instead offer one voucher per day you stay there? - There’s no ramp to get your luggage to the lobby. If you have heavy luggage, you’ll need to carry it up 3 stairs from the street. There’s no staff member at the front door to help you. I saw some elderly folks struggling. - The buffet at Sarfalik is terrible and way overpriced. The food is just bland, dry and mostly tasteless. They ran out of several items and no one replenished those items for too long. My waiter didn’t bring me water until I was about to leave. Too long a line to get food. The non-buffet nights might be much better. Other tips: - The rooms are small and spartan, which is not at all unusual by European standards. But don’t be surprised when, for instance, there’s no phone or clock, the TV only gets about 5 channels, and you don’t get any small towels. This might be the best hotel in Nuuk but in some ways it will feel like a 2- or 3-star hotel elsewhere in the world. - All the AC outlets use the standard European two-pin plug. If you want to charge your phone or a computer, be sure to bring a plug adapter. There are no USB charging ports. - The curtains are not quite blackout quality. In the summer, the sun never completely sets and some light gets through the curtains. You might want to bring an eye mask to sleep.

I was disappointed by my hotel experience. Nuuk may not be ready for tourism like its neighbor, Iceland. While the HHE is considered the best hotel in Nuuk, it is no better than a 3-star tourist hotel in the United States. It is more like a Days Inn than a Marriott or a charming European Boutique hotel. The deluxe polar class hotel was spartan, the bathroom small and had a moldy shower curtain that created a terrible odor in the room. There was a single window to air out the room, and the housekeeping was spotty. The hotel had breakfast in a conference room, and the food was very sad and of limited selection. The hotel was undergoing construction and the construction noise was loud from morning to night. I stayed three nights and regretted the choice.

Good location; comfortable; probably the largest hotel in Nuuk; quality breakfast served from 6am in morning; single room was quite small

Nice breakfast smorgasbord. Sadly, this hotel came up as the best offering in Nuuk. There was no fridge, no kettle, only a single towel and hand towel (or maybe it was the bathmat) for a party of two. On the plus side, the wifi was great and there was a nice Nordic breakfast on the top level, especially the mixed fruit juice/smoothie. I think some work might need to be done to bring it up to speed as Nuuk opens to tourism. Staff were great.

Just a basic hotel, no frills, nothing to make it special or stand out from the rest. We did have a great steak in the restaurant.
