First, this hotel was booked through an agency. It was supposed to be a two-day stay. Due to changes in my itinerary, I wanted to postpone or cancel the reservation. As a result, the solution was not resolved after four days of coordination with Ctrip. The agency refused forcefully. After placing the order, I was not allowed to do anything. There is no room for negotiation when making changes, and Ctrip cannot restrain agents. Overseas hotels cannot be contacted by phone or email, and there is a time difference, making communication very difficult. As a result, I wasted 1,000 yuan on hotel expenses for a day. I advise everyone not to book overseas hotels through agents as there is no guarantee.
Second, after an adult and a child checked into this hotel, they found that it was not a hotel at all, but a wilderness B&B. They found that the room was extremely small and the facilities were broken. The breakfast the next day was extremely poor. The most annoying thing was that they had to charge a fee when checking out. The US$110 is for breakfast and child charges. Why didn't you tell me when you checked in? This B&B owner, ******, came out and yelled, had a bad attitude, and demanded that you have to pay the fee to leave. You really can't help yourself overseas. Pay the money quickly. La struttura si trova in una zona tranquilla e per noi è stato un punto di forza. Pochi minuti a piedi e l'atmosfera cambia e diventa più elettrizzante. Low rise buildings (mostly ‘bungalows’) set in colourful, well tended gardens within the owners grounds, with direct and wide access to a beautiful beach. The owners treat visitors almost as their personal guests (in a non invasive friendly way) The manager Margaret speaks good English and could not be more helpful or friendly. The staff team too are friendly and efficient. Flame tree cottages has a well kept swimming pool and beach bar serving a good variety of drinks and food, not as ‘exciting’ as some other local restaurants but with good portions. There are kayaks on offer and Flame tree have their own dhow boat offering reasonably priced & sometimes private excursions (guests can just say where they want to go, or ask for recommendations).
Breakfasts are plentiful & special diets are catered for, served on the terraces outside each bungalow.
Flame tree cottages is in a convenient location within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants, cafes, a turtle sanctuary, local housing etc. It’s an oasis of calm within quite a busy & interesting community with the added advantage of being directly on a beach with glorious sunsets.

Mooie locatie en (deels) vriendelijk personeel. De meeste lijken met plezier hun werk te doen. Het zwembad is heerlijk, en het restaurant aan zee is een prachtige locatie. Echter het eten komt onwijs langzaam, zelfs als het leeg is, duurt het gemiddeld 60+ minuten voor je het eten ontvangt. Voor een voorgerecht en hoofd hebben we ruim 3,5 uur gezeten. Daarbij was ook niet alles compleet. Eten zelf is verder prima, maar wij hebben na de eerste dag steeds elders gegeten waar we niet zo lang hoefde te wachten. De kamers zijn oké, maar niet geweldig. Toiletborstel was erg vies, warm water heb je soms wel, maar vaak ook niet. Al met al hebben we hier een fijn verblijf gehad. Er moet wel gewerkt worden aan wat verbeteringen en de kwaliteit. Daarom 3/5.

We stayed here for the first week of 2025 and had a fantastic holiday. The hotel consists of single storey bungalows set within lush, mature gardens with the pool and sunbeds at the centre. The rooms are on the basic side, but were always immaculate and the bed was very comfy; they were cleaned daily and the beds turned down at night. The pool was great, fringed by mature plants and a giant Flame tree which was stunning. The staff were most friendly and helpful, and during our stay we regularly met the owner and his family who lived on site. Everyone was most accomodating. The highlight was the Hotel's location within Nungwi, it's beach bar and the exceptional sunsets every evening. Step out of the hotel gate and you are right on the beach: turn right for a quieter time or go left for plentiful bars and restaurants, all a short stroll away. None of the other hotels that we saw had the open garden space and relaxed atmosphere that Flame Tree Cottages has and we never had to fight for a sunbed. For us, it was the perfect choice and we will look to go back.
