It's quite acceptable in an environment like Tonga, but the configuration really can't keep up with the price. The sea view room is a little different from the picture, the transparent glass is blocked by cloth. But if I go again I will still choose this place.
But the owner of the hotel is a very nice person. He is Chinese. He is very enthusiastic and gave some travel suggestions and help.

I was booked into a delux room for 8 nights, spent the first night there without any sleep as it was so noisy with building going on next door (found out later it was them doing extensions) and also noise from the street. Asked in the morning if I could have a change of room, answer "no". There was a large area of mould in the shower and a horrible plastic shower curtain. Around the basin was disgusting. The overhead bed lights did not work nor the 2 plugs for the electric jug. Breakfast was instant coffee, 2 hard boiled eggs & a piece of toast. 5 of my nights were spent at Tanoa at an extra $2,500.

The staff, including the restaurant are excellent. I can't say enough of the warm hospitality that was offered me throughout my 2 week stay.
The hotel is well situated to lively nightime food options, walking along the waterfront, and close to town. The hotel is a little tired, but it also had its charm.
Do yourself a favour and book one of the rooms facing the water - evenings on the patio taking in the ambiance are well worth the few extra $$ (versus a room with no balcony).
Will definately go back to the Emerald. Thanks to the staff - wonderful!
