Red Elephant Inn Bed and Breakfast

Don't book here. The inn is terribly run down. The ceiling fan and furniture tops in our room was coated in dust. No toilet paper in the bathroom and the tub had missing/broken tiles. Owner came to fix our TV upon arrival and just stood there with his but crack exposed trying to figure out the 4 remotes but never once pulling up his pants. WOW - we stayed about 20 minutes. I didn't test the water pressure or look under the bed but I'm sure I wouldn't have been impressed. The main entrance wasn't even cleared for guests to be able to safely navigate through the snow banks. There is NO REFUND available so do yourself favor and don't book this listing. Zero stars. Dirty. Unsafe. Creepy vibes.

Place in total disrepair. Toilet would not flush. You had to take back off from toilet to manually set toilet plug. Chain was broken and had been repaired a couple of times with rusty wire. Toilet was 8 inches from side of shower. You had to sit on toilet sideways and seat was falling off. Shower did not drain. Room was dirty. We had paid for 2 nights but checked out next day because condition was so bad. Owner would not refund money and said he could have easily fixed the toilet and seat with a screwdriver. He did not seem surprised as if he was used to it and threatened with legal action if we complained. Instructions were not to call owner after 8:30 and most problems with toilet and shower were after 8:30. Breakfast was 8:30 9:30. When we left a couple of hours later, dirty breakfast dishes and leftover food was still sitting out on tables. Big hole in ceiling outside of room. General disrepair everywhere. DO NOT STAY HERE!!

Place not what expected from pictures. The place is run down, dirty, and not at all what us shown in marketing pictures. Says decorated Art Deco, and perhaps it was with previous owners. Common space ok but room had light switch plates that were and a few pictures but nothing else. Found rust, dust and maintenance issues throughout. Would not ever stay again

The toilet in our room would not flush. We told the proprietor, he said he would fix it while we were out at dinner. When we returned, it flushed once, then broke again. The lights, fan and outlets in the bathroom did not work. When I politely asked the proprietor about it, he exploded, yelling, "If you think you can get an electrician to come here, go ahead and try." The carpets are thread bare. It looks like it has not been really cleaned in decades. I suspect the health and/or fire department would condemn the place if they inspected it. Breakfast may have been good, but since it was not available until 8:30, we left to go hiking. Based on the rest of the place, I suspect the kitchen was not clean either. The picture bears no resemblance to the actual building. In reality, the paint is faded and peeling badly.

I hardly know where to start. Let’s begin with the positives…….the beds were comfortable and breakfast delicious. Now the negatives, of which there are so many. This place is badly in need of renovation but, more to the point, a deep clean! And things need fixing. Who lets out a room where the door handle is hanging off and the toilet is malfunctioning? And when told about said toilet does absolutely nothing to fix it? The host did change my room and it was better. BUT I still showered in the dark due to the main bathroom light and the one over the bath not working. Meanwhile, in another room, my friend would not drink from the supplied glasses as they were dirty. In fact the whole place felt dirty and, in some places was. The venetian blind in my bathroom was thick with dust, I would estimate 12 months worth it was that thick. And a warning……WiFi does not work in all rooms. My friend and I were in separate parts of the building and the only way we could communicate was by me paying to turn on my data roaming. I could go on but I won’t. It is extremely rare for me to post a review like this, and I hate doing so, but I feel anyone who goes should do so with their eyes wide open.
