We were given a lovely room in the Annex. It was spacious and had a view of Rutland Water. We had a lovely stay and would definitely stay again

Room smelt musty and the lack of cleaning through the room and bathroom was evident. Cobwebs everywhere, bath areas mouldy and spa bath generated a lot of debris from within the system. The entire place needs a good clean.
Food was average and very deep fried!

We recently stayed here for an evening wedding reception at the hotel. We had an early meal in the Click restaurant which was faultless, food excellent, staff great and it was spotless. Our double room was tiny and very dated, light over the bed did not work and the shower was stuck on very hot, which was dangerously hot- both were reported to receptionist but nothing got done about it. Our breakfast in the morning was in the conservatory amongst all the detritus of the wedding the night before! The food was unappealing and unappetising and the latte coffee we asked for was so bitter we did not drink it. We paid £140 and feel that it was an expensive night and will not be back again.

This was a hotel recommended to me by a family member who had stayed here previously. Seemed too good to be true when viewed online. First night 29th June was perfect for my sister and I. We stayed in The 'Normanton Room', a family room with a lake view. A clean room, although a little tired and a thick layer of dust around edges of the carpets. We ate a lovely dinner in The Clock Restaurant. Staff was so friendly and helpful. The evening was spent walking around the lake and taking in the beautiful scenery. We couldn't wait to return on our trip back home from up north. Our next stay was the 4th July. Our room was 2 doors from the last one. No bedding for the sofa bed. No WIFI and no mobile signal. This was a huge problem for me and would be for anyone needing communication available in the room or even if working from there (which I do often when staying in a hotel) This hotel notes that it offers high speed WIFI in every room. I spoke to reception and the manager and was offered a double room (Room 2) as a replacement. Optimistic, I took the card and ventured to the room. Disgusting! Filthy, broken window catch and the window was wide open and unable to close. Net curtain was of course dirty as a result. The window was so high, that I had to stand on a chair to try and close it. I could only see outside on tip-toe (I'm 5Ft 6). I decided to stay in the original room after notifying family of my alternative contact details in case of emergency. This stay, we had our evening meal and breakfast the following morning in the Conservatory Restaurant. What a shock! Fly cemetery. Flies on the window sills, underneath the roof blinds (blocking the light completely in the bottom runs) and on the floor. These were not just from recent days and not because they are positioned by a lake (which is what the manager told us). The floor was sticky and decor shabby, with holes in the plaster. I was informed that we would receive monetary compensation for our less than adequate stay, but to date have received just a generic feeling response, due to a review posted on the booking site. Upon checking out, we had to wait because the poor receptionist was dealing with another very unsatisfied customer, also less than happy with the state of the hotel. I rarely write reviews, only when extremely satisfied or extremely disappointed. (wrong of me I know). I have worked in hospitality and currently work in building compliance. I was not thinking about work during my stay, but I do know that cleanliness and safety is paramount to anyone staying in a hotel or 'rented' accommodation. I think the managers need to enforce a much stricter daily cleaning regime and get some decorators in, because this hotel has the potential to be absolutely beautiful throughout. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone based on my stay on the Friday night. (Sadly was keen to leave a stunning review based on my first night).

Spacious, well appointed and very clean room with 2 balconies with views of Rutland Water. We didn’t eat at the hotel so can’t comment on food. Staff very helpful - especially sending on my wife’s expensive cosmetics which she had left in the room.
