Gassan and just up the road from the ski resort, it was a quiet location so I was able to relax and rejuvenate. The surroundings are rich in nature and the stars were beautiful at night. The food was mostly mountain produce, an irresistible menu for mountain vegetable lovers. The open-air bath had a great view. There was a sense of openness and you could feel one with nature. The staff were also very considerate, which is something you don't get at larger inns. I would like to continue using their services in the future.

We stayed for one night after descending from the Ubagawa trailhead of Mt. Gassan. The bookshelf in the lobby was a little impressive. I had a variety of books in my collection and wanted to pick them up if I had the time. It feels like a small hotel, so I think it's a little different from a ryokan, but it had an atmosphere where you could spend a relaxing time. It's said to be one of the heaviest snowfall areas in Japan, and the hot springs are on the second floor, with thick beams on the ceiling and paving stones that aren't slippery, making it very comfortable. Shizu Onsen seems to have been a part of the area where a guardhouse was set up on the Rokujurikoshi Kaido, a pilgrimage route, in the past. It may also be a good idea for those who are interested in Yudonoyama Shrine, which is said to be a place where people should not talk about it.
