The hotel Sylvia has a library theme and very quaint. We stayed in the Shakespeare room which had an ocean view. The hotel was well decorated and very comfortable. The outdoor space was nice and had sitting space and a fire pit. The staff was very accommodating and nice breakfast was available for an additional fee, but worth it.

Sophisticated, charming, and relaxing.. this is a truly perfect hidden gem nestled in a beautiful flower garden just a few steps away from the Nye Beach Downtown area.

I stayed here on September 2nd-3rd 2025. This hotel is modern unlike traditional hotel chains I’m accustomed to. It was relaxing to sit outside by the fire pit watching the sunset. As I returned to my room, it was nice to see people playing board games in the dining room. Also, in the morning, the staff was very attentive and asked if they can make me a cup of espresso or cappuccino. I am an early riser but was able to sleep in because the bed was extremely comfortable. I understand the remodel does not have the same characteristic as the original hotel but I have to admit, it is much cleaner. Howard

Beautiful hotel, beautiful views. The entire stay from check-in to check-out was amazing. The corner room with wrap around balcony was perfect for morning coffee with a view. Try the Cafe!! Yum!! We will be back again soon 😊!

New ownership and re-do of the hotel in 2025: Still a wonderful place, and literary-themed. Overall, nice updating, nice colors and style. Stayed in the past, loved the colorful, funky decor with antiques and unique author-themed rooms, expansive library on second floor, right over the beach, incredible views. Now things are a bit different. One big improvement: the lobby: conversion of the old gift shop into a really nice, classy lounge, complete with fireplace, comfy chairs, books and new games. There's a few comfy small tables to sit at and gaze out at the view, as well as a nice balcony with chairs, and a deck below with fire pit. The old library, understandably, was made into two guest rooms, and the library now just the attic part. It's still nice, cozy, and plenty of new games and books available, but not somewhere I would hang out for a few hours, gazing out at the view while I write or read. Now to my main quabble: no tea readily available. They seem to have a coffee bias. They even serve complimentary espresso drinks at the front desk. The kitchenette room on the third floor is gone, so guests do not have ready access to a refrigerator (though staff will put your leftovers in the kitchen fridge, if you ask at the front desk) nor a tea station. They do put out a pot of coffee in the lobby in the morning, and set up tea on one of the tables in the lounge in the EVENING (not when I want tea!) but despite my polite feedback and request, they would not leave the tea out in the lobby. It would be so easy to add a pot of hot water or kettle and leave the teabags out (need more herbal selection, by the way; decaffeinated black and green teas still have some caffeine!). I asked down in the dining room for tea in the morning, he sent me to the front desk, where I waited for 15 minutes while she was on the phone the whole time and never acknowledged me nor the 3 people behind me, so I turned to go back down to the dining room, when a nice housekeeper approached me and asked if she could help. Took me downstairs, pulled out a drawer full of teabags, and suggested I ask for hot water in the dining room. This time, the waiter gave it to me! Took me 20 minutes and two trips up and down the stairs to dining room just to get a cup of tea in the morning! They have some service bugs to work out. The steep flights of stairs can be quite tedious if you are a senior (though a fit one!) and need anything, like a second luggage rack for the two of us in our room on the third floor. There was a strange shelf unit, with plenty of small shelves for books but only a very small space to hang maybe 4 shirts, nothing long. The new shower place was very nice. No tub :-( for soaking legs tired from hiking. The decor is a bit odd; the light fixtures and 2 black and white pictures were period pieces, but the wallpaper and furniture didn't match the era at all. I miss the real wood antiques. Despite the prices, we decided to have breakfast in

Beautiful setting on the beach, great location, wonderfully restored, awesome breakfast and views. Really enjoyed the complimentary oat lattes. Sadly the building is 100+ yrs old and likely unable to be soundproofed, so if you're a light sleeper, bring ear plugs for the folks walking above. Also the doors are very noisy when closing. Other than that, it's a superb chic place with great staff and thoughtful touches.

Quality updates and features make this old hotel more attractive for book lovers or anyone who enjoys the Oregon Coast & sweeping ocean views. Several welcoming indoor and outdoor community spaces. Sadly, the room window updates includes window stops that restrict opening the windows wide to allow the ocean breeze and sounds to fill the room. In the room I had on the second floor, I could only open the windows less than 2 inches; after mentioning this to one of the owners, she told me they would be changing the window stops to allow them to open 4 inches, which is the maximum allowed due to safety regulations. If wide open windows matter to you, reserve a room with a balcony or door to the outside. I have noticed window stops at other Oregon Coast hotels after renovations, and now I usually try to find a room with a sliding door and balcony so I can leave the door wider open. The breeze and sound of the ocean are a large part of why I am willing to spend more to stay in a room oceanfront or oceanview. I was surprised and disappointed that the bed sheets and pillowcases are microfiber; microfiber is not the norm for hotels, especially mid to higher end hotels. Microfiber is not breathable like cotton, and these bed linens left me feeling clammy. This may not matter to others, but I would hesitate to return unless another option could be provided, such as being able to request cotton sheets. Those two issue asides, Hotel Sylvia has welcoming staff, interesting and fun book-themed decor, and the location is perfect for walking to Nye beach restaurants and accessing the beach.

Lovey little historical place. Room was very small but super clean and cozy. Bathroom was immaculate. Lots of extra towels and blankets available in the cabinet in the hallway on the 2nd floor. Be aware even though there is a thermostat in the room there is not a/c. We were able to open the windows. Lovely ocean sounds and pretty view. Friendly staff at check in. Lots of outdoor seating to the in the views.
