Beautiful cottage overnight and the best breakfast ever. We were so lucky to find this resting place on our trip north. Carol provided the welcome and was a delightfully attentive hostess. The cottage attached to the hotel is immaculately appointed with a capacious bath, and toiletries. I relished in the comfortable bed (with just the right weight of bedding). A full kitchen (coffee, tea and biscuits!) and a fridge with fresh milk and water. Breakfast excellent!

Lovely family run hotel. Beds comfy, everywhere clean, superb breakfast. My favorite hotel in this area Staff friendly and helpful Good size room. Very quiet even though on main road Not a problem to us but if you have mobility issues stairs would be steep. No lift in historic building naturally

Not sure what to expect when we booked, looked like a small old fashioned city centre hotel on a busy junction. We were passing through and needed a stopover. So pleased we found this place, which was cosy, comfortable and quirky. Our room was out the back in the courtyard, which was fine. The family run the hotel (mother front of house, son in kitchen) and sort of made it all work with great charm. It may have been a bit haphazard but you could feel the warmth and care for the guests. The food was good, the speciality pies a real treat, and the portions very generous. Great beer on tap. Bedroom was plain but comfortable and quiet, had a good night’s sleep. Fresh milk in a fridge for the morning coffee was a nice touch.

Ample parking to the rare of the premises for the number of rooms they have, as you walk into the hotel, you’ll find it a bit quirky. Lots of little signs and photographs/pictures adore the walls. Check in is a bit drawn out, the room I had was adequate with all the necessities required. The place is very clean , warm and welcoming. You cant leave your card open for drinks and food , you have to pay separately this is something I don’t like, I prefer just one invoice.

Such a lovely quiet hotel, spacious en suite and comfortable bed, I slept really well both nights I slept. There's a fridge in the room and fresh milk is available instead of prepacked uht. There are also enough towels and most requirements can be met on request including ironing facilities and a hairdryer. Compared to nearby locations it was superb value. It is also pet friendly but the downside is there's no lift however I managed the stairs and staff were helpful with luggage. I highly recommend it here if you want a peaceful night's sleep

We have just spent a very enjoyable 4 night stay here at this hotel in the town of Newark. The hotel is family run and they are all very friendly and welcoming, we were on a bed and breakfast basis and I must say the food was excellent, cooked well and you could create your own or just choose from the extensive menu. A special mention to Grandad Dave who works his socks off and has plenty of conversation and time for the guests, well done sir. We would have liked a larger room but when we booked there was only one room left so it was Hobson's choice, the room we were allocated lacked wardrobe and drawer space but other than that we had a really enjoyable stay here with Paul, Carol and of course Dave. Would readily recommend this hotel and it has a good location for town or access to roads to other places. Well done everyone.

Wow, what pies we had! Lovely room, nice bar friendly staff, nothing not to like. Very close to town centre, small but sufficient car parking area. Currently having internal work done, but no effect on the running of the business. Thanks for a lovely overnight stay, we'll be back

The owner's parents played host/hostess to us during our stay, for check-in and breakfast, and they represented the best of British hospitality. Our room was spotless, the breakfast choice was impressive and my choice , Sweet Breafast with maple syrup, was delicious!!! Free parking close to the rear door into the inn (with a great little Vientamese restaurant across the way with superiour pho soup). Lovely stay.

Stopped off here on our drive from Stansted to Glasgow. Great room rate, especially if you book directly on their site (Save £5 parking fee that is included with online booking sites) Food was absolutely amazing and all very fresh and home made. Not the cheapest meals but you will certainly appreciate what you are paying for. Just fabulous Small room 4 but it had everything you could want, and hey,,we were only sleeping in it. Its and old 18th century coaching in but has been beautifully renovated and many points of interest in the buildings features.
