The front of house staff were very welcoming and helpful, especially as I was travelling for the first time in America, and first time solo. I arrived quite early, and they did their best to find me a room quickly. The room was tidy and had everything you need, with free tea and coffee. I did find it a little dark being on the ground floor, but it was very close to a pizza place which was handy for dinner.

I’m starting to notice that the IHG brand is a cut above your typical freeway offramp hotel. This candlewood suites is a well-run hotel. The room was clean, bed was comfortable, service was great. Seems like a lot of the hotel rooms I stay in either smell like bad perfume or like gasoline fumes, but this one was odor free. The room was a little dated, for example I couldn’t find a USB plug to charge my phone. There’s no continental breakfast, but I’m not a fan of the typical hotel breakfast buffet anyway, unless it’s a high-end hotel. Overall, a pretty good place to stay for a night or two.

We spent a weekend here and had a positive experience. Kyle was our front desk agent and gave us all of the information we needed to have a nice stay. The rooms were clean and had everything we needed. However, the cable TV in our room was broken as the coaxial cable behind the TV was broken off and could not be connected back. I keep a Roku on me but the WiFi was not reliable to stream, so I used my phone as a hotspot. Also, the heating/AC unit had some issues in the middle of the night. The unit says it has a 'smart feature' to detect when people are in the room. This feature clearly does not work 100%. We had the A/C unit on and it kept turning off or blowing air that was not cool. There are plenty of places to eat and things to do in the immediate area.

Over the last year and a half I have been staying at this hotel multiple times a week for work. Between Rosa, Archie and the rest of the staff world class customer service is always offered. All the staff is very friendly and always eager to help accommodate for any issues/change of plans. The hotel overall is very clean and the rooms are comparable to a studio. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in the Newark area. I have stayed at multiple hotels in the Newark area but have not experienced anything close to the service I receive at this hotel.

Nice stay. Quite no issues. Good service from Kyle, friendly and professional. Only one issue. The WiFi at this hotel is subpar at best. To the Mgt of Candlewood Suites Newark South - University Area, an IHG Hotel, do better with the WiFi. Your staff and employees are doing great. Do your part and and provide better WiFi for your customers. Thanks

Been to a lot of hotels but this was outstanding quality for the price. Kyle at the reception was very pleasant and the room did not disappoint in style and quality. It was simply refreshing spending the night here. The kitchen area was excellent and it just feels like I am in my private accommodation back home with the separate living area and bedroom design. Extremely good quality I must admit.

Archie, Rosa, and Alicia are incredibly friendly and very helpful. They go above and beyond for their guest and it shows. They always give me a kind smile and a warm welcome! The place is very convenient, centrally located, and the cupboard is always stocked!!
