This isn't going to be a nice review. We stayed at Sonesta ES Wilmington as part of a lacrosse tournament hotel reservation in July 2025. I didn't do my own due diligence and just assumed the tournament operators would've chosen a hotel with a certain level of service. They did not. First the good. The front desk staff was pleasant. Unfortunately, that doesn't make up for the bad. Our room 921 was terrible. The room was dirty, outdated and smelled like sweat. The bath mat had black stains creeping out from under it, there were cobwebs on the wall and somewhere marked up the wall in the bedroom area with pen. This was by far the most ghetto room we've ever stayed in. There are other options nearby that undoubtedly must be better. Honestly, staying in our car would've been more pleasant. The hotel owner needs to update the rooms and ensure the cleaning staff is competent to do a good cleaning job. Maybe they just need training. Idk but something needs to be done. Everything was subpar and it really demonstrates that the ownership here doesn't care about the guest experience. Spend your money elsewhere until they do.

We booked a King Suite, which it was nice. But the room smelt like cigarette smoke and the pull out coach was not cleaned. Had stains all over it and had a strong odor of urine coming from it. We went up to the front desk and they were able to switch us to a different room. It was a smaller room but it was clean. Our stay was great though, staff was friendly, pool was great and my youngest loved the basketball court they had on site.

Horrible service
I arrived at 3:10 to check in, and they told me the rooms weren't ready. (Which of course is a lie; the hotel was empty.) Check-in was at 4:00 p.m. A black woman was acting very mocking. Then they told me if I wanted to get in, I had to pay an extra $27 for early check-in. By that time, it was already 3:20 a.m., so there was no room for it. Paying for early check-in 40 minutes earlier!!! Horrible!! And if you want to check out, you have to pay an extra $27. And they also pay $5 extra for parking per car... Good customer service doesn't exist here.

Quiet, nice staff. One our room 1521, bathroom has blood stains on the carpet. It was a turn off. The dish washer smells moldy and the soap residue is all over it.
