Very nice place for a quiet time off, really enjoyed staying here with my partner. I will definitely comeback - since no issues. Only problem is the ceiling due it’s a bit moldy

Our stay was less than average. The room was tired and need of a thorough clean. Curtains and blinds hanging off the rails, grime around the windows. Dirty carpet and lots of marks on the walls. The beds were really comfy though, and would have provided us with a lovely nights sleep, but the broken air conditioning unit directly outside the bedroom window put paid to that. 8 hours of constant clunking from the unit was pretty unbearable, needless to say, we skipped breakfast and made a break for some peace and quiet. Doubt we will be back.

The Unicorn is in a great location right by the River Trent. Unfortunately it was not a great experience. It was early Saturday evening, not very busy and only half the restaurant seating was open. Despite that service was incredibly slow and one member of staff, who I suspect was new, was quite surly. Our table was sticky and not well cleaned from its previous use. My husband had a mixed grill - dry, overcooked and not good quality. My sea bass was nice. Other meals were very ordinary pub food but higher priced than elsewhere. The toilets were absolutely disgusting.

Fab location but poor experience overall. It’s not cheap for what really is just standard pub food. Music blaring from the kitchen which was different to the background music in the restaurant and could be heard all the time but especially when the kitchen doors opened. Tables felt sticky, cutlery wasn’t clean but worst of all was the toilets, which could do with some TLC but that could have been overlooked if they were clean. They were disgusting. It wasn’t even busy, so no excuse. Service was very slow to the point we felt forgotten and wasn’t friendly or welcoming. Food was ok - I expected much better. Won’t be returning.

After mentioning an issue with the room first allocated to us upon check-in, we were directed to another room, it was excellent… very spacious, view of the river, very clean and lovely bathroom. We had an excellent night sleep in a huge king size bed, it was lovely and quiet especially after closing time.
Looking back at what time we checked in, we could’ve timed it better because it was in the middle of food service in the restaurant and it was very busy, so there was a bit of a wait to check in as staff were extra busy.
At breakfast the food options on the continental was excellent and a plentiful supply and came included with the cooked breakfast.

nice stay, as well as full breakfast no complaints, other than bring an extension lead with you

A lovely hotel where the staff were absolutely wonderful, the kids were over the moon with the biscuits the lady on reception gave us, just a little touch but it was lovely. The room was a little dated but had all we needed and was well maintained and clean which is more important than the era of furniture (think 1990s pine era).
The initial lack of signage for the car park had us almost parking out the front in a car park full of pot holes but as we got out we realised the car park was round the back son drove round there instead. The car park was well lit, covered by cctv, and easy access to the bar and hotel. There’s also a really good little park for the kids to be entertained if you want to sit out back for a bit.
Overall it was excellent value for money and we would definitely go back.
