The 1661 Inn

We really enjoyed our trip to Block Island and I have to compliment everyone at the 1661 staff were incredible. Rita the innkeeper made us feel so welcome with her fresh veggies and flowers from the garden. The Mimosa brunch overlooking the beautiful landscape is to die for!

The 1661 properties are must stay when visiting Block Island! From the moment you arrive, you are greeted with warm friendly smiles from all staff members and owner. All properties are clean and well appointed with many amenities. The view from the 1661 is gorgeous and allows you to soak up the ocean air and relax. The breakfast buffet is delicious with a selection of fresh vegetables from their gardens and a beautiful way to start the day while enjoying the ocean’s views. As a special treat for the young and old is an exotic animal farm, take a stroll through the grounds and visit the animals and gardens. They recently opened their new property Eureka with beautifully decorated rooms with expansive views, some with magnificent decks! You won’t want to leave the property! The room was well appointed and had plenty of room. The bathroom was a great size. The room and the bathroom were spotless. Front desk was very accommodating with early check in and all of my requests. Internet worked great. An added feature was if you wanted to go to the beach after check out the 1661 resort has a bathroom with a shower that guests can use. They gave you towels to use shampoo, conditioner and soap. They even offered me a beach towel to use at the beach.

This is an awesome spot. Me and my husband will be coming for the last couple years. The staff they’re wonderful breakfast is amazing rooms. They’re nice and clean beautiful you have some fresh flowers decorations. We love it. breakfast is everything fresh from the garden.

This resort really exceeded my expectations. From the panoramic 180 degree sea views to the entire staff, including the front desk folks, wait staff, housekeepers, and groundskeepers, everyone was so courteous, friendly and helpful throughout my entire stay. I love food, and so the gourmet breakfast rates a special mention also. It was well tended and stocked with wonderfully delicious freshly-made fare. Truly an incredible value! The muffins, in particular, were moist and tasty, some of the best I've ever had. Even the wine and cheeses at the afternoon nibbles were all so good as well. The farm across the street was a nice touch. I enjoyed seeing the animals daily. One early evening I saw Tank the giant tortoise asleep under a soft layer of hay, and could hear him gently snoring! If that doesn't make your day, I don't know what else will. Finally, the 1661's location was perfect, too. Close enough to walk to town and the ferry, and not too far for a nice stroll to the south lighthouse and the "stairs to the sea". I'm definitely looking forward to my next stay at this A+ resort.

We've been here many many times over the last 30 years and this place never disappoints. There are different rooms to choose from, each with their own character, all very well appointed. Rita and her family have done a fantastic job decorating while holding on to it's charm and old world feeling with all the latest amenities.
