Our second honeymoon stay. Let me say what an absolutely pleasure it was staying at woodbridge. We stayed in the Academy room. The owners were amazing and we loved hearing from about the history of the building. It was all furnished beautifully and we adored the art and antiques.

Lovely heritage listed and beautifully restored Georgian manor, with well appointed and very comfortable rooms. Great location on the River Derwent, within walking distance to the town centre.

We recently spent the last few days of our honeymoon at Woodbridge and we were happily surprised to find such a wonderful place at short notice...... The Woodbridge has an enchanting setting, a unique history and architecture and is excellently managed and run by John and Laurelle, who truly have a great understanding of how to create a relaxing retreat atmosphere. Their attention to the little details makes the experience completely carefree. The fine dining menu whilst restricted, offered a perfect option for all tastes. John's impressive cellar of local wines, coupled with his willingness to share his extensive knowledge, ensured we had a perfectly selected wine for each evening's meal. We can't forget all the staff who work with John and Laurelle, from housekeeping to kitchen. Everyone went above beyond our expectations everyday.

Mum and I stayed a week at Woodbridge and had a glorious time. Staying at Woodbridge makes you feel like royalty. Every need was catered for, the food was amazing and the house is impeccably maintained and furnished. John was a gracious and relaxed host, allowing us to feel like visitors at a friend's house. The little touches like snacks and drinks in the Salon, tourist brochures, dvds and a reading library made it feel like home. It was a truly relaxing ambience and we met some lovely people staying there. Everyone said how much they loved it. If you're craving some glorious views, delicious food and elegant surroundings, treat yourself to a night or two at Woodbridge on the Derwent.

We stayed three nights at Woodbridge on the Derwent. The hosts were so welcoming, and full of helpful advice about the area. On our first evening we had dinner there. The food was beautiful, and sitting at the window we had a gorgeous view of the river. It was very romantic, especially since we were there on our wedding anniversary. We loved the personal touches, such as having our names on the door of our room. We also loved the sauna and spa, especially since no one else was using it at the time! Just up the road is The Bush Inn, which is one of the oldest pubs in Australia. An incredible coincidence was that I was looking for some relatives from the First Fleet who were buried nearby, and John directed me to the exact obscure cemetery where they were buried. Very much appreciated! I will definitely come back again.

My partner brought me here for my birthday as a surprise. With no pre-conceived ideas about what to expect I was blown away by this property. What a unique, welcoming wonderful hotel. Reading the restoration albums on display in the living areas showed what an almighty task the owners took on to bring this property to its former glory - and then some. We stayed in the very comfortable 3 Bridges Suite and were delighted with the room, furnishings, river view and morning bird songs. No complaints at all. The main reception building houses the dining room and we had home cooked breakfast made from local produce each morning. The jams from 'a lady up the road' were divine. We had dinner there last night as well - 3 courses and a local Pinot really hit the spot. We were looked after by Melissa who was warm and professional and knowledgable about the local area. She very kindly made us a dinner reservation before our arrival for a special night. Yes, there is little to do and see in New Norfolk but there are many sights only a short drive away. We had the entire place to ourselves during our stay and loved coming back to this big sprawling home after dinner and lighting the fireplace in our room. I was shocked reading the negative reviews posted here. My partner and I are regular 5star travellers and can't wait to come back here to unwind next year. We were completely looked after and enjoyed many special personal touches and adored the love and care poured into this great old dame of a house.. Highly recommended for people who enjoy the simple things in life and are happy in each others company with a Pinot by the fire. P.S to the person complaining about the quality of the cane furniture in the dining room - what a joke. Its been about 10degrees during our stay and each time we dined Melissa had kindly positioned a little heater for our feet next to our table. It's touches like this that make this place a gorgeous, homely getaway. Thank you for having us xx

THE WOODBRIDGE
The Woodbridge turns 200 in 2025, but she is young at heart.
Situated on the Derwent River in New Norfolk, just 30 minutes from Hobart, this 1825 convict-built gem began in 2007 as a fully accredited 5 Star Hotel, and was Tasmania's first and only member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World 2007-2019. As traveller preferences have changed, The Woodbridge has morphed to reflect those changes. The Woodbridge continues to operate as a full service Boutique hotel for Exclusive Use guests, and now operates as a Rooms Only Hotel for the independent, individual traveller.
The Woodbridge has always been a small, private and independent Tasmanian family-run business. There are only nine suites, each unique, with modern furnishings blending seamlessly with original blackwood floors, working fireplaces, handmade bricks and stone walls. The bathrooms have vanities made from Huon pine recycled during the 2004 restoration. Antique maps and curios compliment modern artworks and commissioned pieces created from salvaged convict-made nails, and in the Lewis Reading Room, named for the convict signature found on the staircase, antique books sit happily with a DVD library.
Woodbridge is not set up to accommodate young children. Children who are 'young adults' and at home in an adult environment will be quite comfortable.
