Puddicombe House

Stayed here for one night as New hamburg was a small town we came across to have a slow and relaxed trip. The house has a ton of character, all the way from the dining room, to patio, to room decor. Service was fantastic - all staff we came across were helpful and took care of us. We would recommend taking advantage of the outdoor dining option they have when the weather is nice. One small thing to improve the stay - small fridge would be helpful in the room. We would recommend and return.

Three of us went to the restaurant for a birthday lunch in March. Some of us drove over an hour to get there as we wanted an upscale venue for our guest. The room itself and the cleanliness were satisfactory. There were no table cloths. The napkins were polyester and so did not absorb much and kept sliding onto the floor. The dining room was very cold and our table had a floor vent near it which we had to set a purse over to reduce the cold air flow on us. As for the food, we ordered an Italian burger with fries. The burger was over spiced witch overpowered all the beef flavour. The fries were also over spiced and way too salty. They were sent back and replaced with plain fries which were much better. The Mammoth Lamb Meatball also had too much spice like a curry sauce making it unpleasant to eat. The perogies and carrot cardamom soup were satisfactory although over priced. Coffee was $4 per small cup plus each refill. They did provide a free birthday scoop of ice cream. Overall the food was sub standard and it was not the luxury experience we were expecting so we likely will not be back.

The stay was great, the property is quite charming. Maybe they should provide better training to staff in hospitality as some were confused and a bit exasperated

Puddicombe House is a lovely old building that we had found on Ontario Finest Inns. We chose this place based on its reviews and not too far of a drive for a night away. Upon entering the house we found there was no reception. We waited until a busy server asked us if we needed a table.After telling her we were there for the night she politely handed us the key and gave us directions to our room. Entering our room, we found the bed to be clean and comfortable and the bathroom modern. However, old items on the wall still had not been taken down and painted over, maybe from old sconces or phones. Also, where curtains had been taken down, the wall had not been repainted. It brings the quality of the room down. when things are left unfinished. Please note there is no way of contacting the staff downstairs except by using your own phone or popping down there. We eventually. found the wifi password behind the bedroom door. Dinner at the Inn was lovely. Soup was delicious, as was the main meals and dessert. After dinner we noticed there wasn't anywhere to sit, in front of a fire with an after dinner drink. The 2 main rooms only have tables and chairs, but no wingback or lounge chairs where you can sit and have a drink or a coffee . This made us want to go straight back to our room. We didn't have a great sleep after we found out no staff stay on site.(I did read about this but thought it was an exaggeration) We were told there was someone else staying in the house but we didn't hear or see anyone and our car sat alone in the parking lot. We understand it is off season however knowing we were left in the building with no staff was a little unnerving. We headed down early the next day grabbed a coffee and chatted with the owners of the inn. Very nice couple! The inn seems to cater more to people wanting to eat there or weddings. I think a little more care of overnight guests is needed. Maybe a pamphlet in the room explaining wifi, TV and hours of the bar and restaurant. Even a little about what to explore in New Hamburg. Overall, a great dinner and night away but not quite what we expected from the finest Inns of Ontario.

Lovely and comfortable quiet room. We stayed in the King room in a small house--looked like an old cottage or carriage house--adjacent to the main house and it was very nicely set up, spacious with a couch in addition to the king bed. The patio is shared with hte other (two?) units in the house. Very comfortable mattress with a handquilted bedspread. Nicely equipped room. At the back of the house, we found it very quiet. Checkin is in the main house and was fast and easy, although it would have been nice to have been informed of the wifi code at checkin, or to have found it in the room. Had a fabulous meal at the restaurant and it was very nice to explore the lovely village of New Hamburg before and after. Would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful experience Excellent mansion style boutique hotel. Everything about the place is impeccable from the rooms to the gardens. In the centre of a quiet, funky town very close to Stratford. The restaurant is gourmet, top drawer, and smiling waitresses are lovely.
