The Harbor Hotel is under staffed, particularly in housekeeping and the front end staff needs more training. During check-in we were not welcomed as Choice members, we were given a room that had not been serviced by housekeeping and when I told the front end staff, the reply was "It shows in the system that is was serviced". We went out to a museum and returned 2 hours later at 4:30pm to find the room was EXACTLY the same, bed unmade, dirty towels on bathroom floor, bag of McDonald's garbage sitting inside room by the door. We were provided with another room and I was told there would be some comp on my bill; during checkout I found out this was not true and there was no note explaining the problem during check-in. During our 2 day stay we didn't receive housekeeping services, there was no verbal or written notice that it needed to be requested. We had to request more towels since there was nowhere to put your used towels to dry and it was 98 degrees outside. We also had to request another roll of toilet paper since an extra wasn't provided in the room. Don't bother paying extra for a harbor view, this hotel is too far back from the shore to have any kind of harbor view.

I was almost sorry I made a nonrefundable reservation here to attend a wedding in the area after reading the reviews on this site. All went well and was well, however. My room was a corner room with an alcove (with picture window) and a sleeping area with four huge windows. The room was not fancy by any means and the bathroom was compact, but clean. Everything in the room worked and the king bed was very comfortable. The staff is well meaning and helpful while it is obvious they are not graduates of the Cornell University Hotel School, they were welcoming and always there for guests. The hotel lobby is largely its bar and restaurant (a great and innovative chef in the kitchen). To make a long story short, it exceeded my expectations.

This is a very sub standard accommodation. It is not inexpensive yet the amenities were lacking. My room was cramped and floor was dusty. The bathroom shower had no shelf for shampoo etc. TV was broken (no picture) and sink was clogged. There was also a leak in the bathroom from the HVAC system, making it unusable. Beyond all of this, there was no effort to either change the room or have maintenance/housekeeping address the issues as promised earlier in the day. Only option was to check out! Extremely upset.

Gross, gross, gross, gross. It is clear that the owners of this hotel are squeezing every dollar out of the building by not maintaining it. Our room was FILTHY—there were disgusting brown splashes caked all over the walls near the toilet, the walls were all scuffed and dinged, there was crumbling plaster in the bathroom and above the bed, there was evidence of water leaks, the HVAC grates were caked in dust, and the baseboards were coated in dust and dirt. Housekeeping does a good job with the daily stuff and the front desk was really nice, but this place needs MAINTENANCE. Yeah, it's probably going to cut into profits, but that's part of running a hotel—sorry! In addition, there was a loud private party with a DJ booth DIRECTLY below the room. Impossible to sleep or get work done or just hang out in the room. Management shouldn't rent these rooms out on nights where functions are happening—or they should try to rent them out to people attending the function! Tried to ask the front desk for a discount, but they told me they couldn't offer one. I didn't complain earlier about the room and ask to change rooms because it was pretty obvious the whole place was in the same state of disrepair. This is my third bad experience with a Choice hotel, and it solidifies my opinion that the Choice franchisees aren't held to a high enough standard. Never again—I'm swearing off the whole chain. It's too bad, the location is awesome and New Bedford is a fascinating place.

Brilliant location for this newly opened hotel. The property has 70 bedrooms which consist of a main room (bed, storage, fridge, tv and work desk). Bathroom has a vanity unit with excellent lighting. The shower was decent and standard toilet. The reception area is staffed 24 hours a day. There is a grab and go breakfast option (coffee, juice, pastries etc). There is no room service available. Within the property there is a restaurant and bar, which unfortunately isn’t open each day. I checked in on November 14 and checked out on November 18. At no point was my room refreshed by housekeeping….which isn’t a problem, but it would have been nice to ask if I needed anything etc. I travel for business and stay at a variety of hotels (across the rating spectrum). The Harbour Hotel in New Bedford is a great location to explore this unique and historical area. I would recommend it. Note to management: you are sitting on a goldmine with this hotel….but you need to invest in the property and offer a greater service to guests. For example; when I checked in, the receptionist informed me that the restaurant was closed…as a traveler it would have been helpful to have had a list of available eateries close by.

The room is very well organized without any excesses. King bed with a very comfortable mattress. Walk in shower was a plus. Breakfast in house was very convenient. Maria the person at the front desk was excellent.

The New Bedford Harbor Hotel is a contemporary redesign of a five-story building in downtown New Bedford. It is within easy walking distance of shopping, dining, nightlife, and the waterfront. The hotel offers a light breakfast, grab-and-go style in the rear of an attractive, spacious lobby. The lobby bar is well-stocked with a knowledgeable staff, and a small appetizer and sandwich menu. Our room was thoughtfully designed with darkening drapes and a very comfortable bed. The front desk service is pleasant and efficient. This was a great place for a couple's getaway.
