Stayed for two nights in an annex in the car park. When we arrived no staff available for check in, note left on back door of pub and key in room door. Good accommodation for price paid. First morning, basic breakfast cooked and served by the chef. This morning, went to breakfast, pub shut up, no sign of staff and no one answering the phone. Another guest also in the same boat. Also smoke alarm in our room had gone off twice at 2am so unable to tell anyone this morning. Such a pity as a gorgeous location and old building.

Only single men dining (Contractors staying in the rooms?) and a complete absence of locals drinking as well as many of the rooms in darkness, was a message we should have clocked. The lady behind the bar seemed flustered and offered aperol spritz without ice so we had to ask for some. The food was of very modest quality. I had a chick pea curry but without any hint of curry! Kitchen staff toing and froing with their e ening meals. The atmosphere was dead with little prospect of improving from our experience.

Lovely and clean, a handrail in the shower would have been useful. We had a meal in the restaurant, a party of 9, food was delicious, no delay for people having to wait for their food to come out. Breakfast on both days was just enough. Lovely location, ideal for a drink and lunch sitting by the river. Definitely a favourite stop for us.

I could hear rats or mice scuttling in the ceiling at night. Food all tasted microwaved/defrosted, hair in the food. Would not recommend.

This was our first visit to the Queens head but based on our experience won’t be our last. Got there a little early so we could check the place out, typical old English pub with a few locals having a beer, all very friendly and welcoming. The young lady behind the bar Esme took our order but card machine wasn’t working but no problem she set up a tab. We decided to have some food so my wife ordered the pork tenderloin and I had the burger. Always a good test, basic but can get wrong very easily have to say both excellent and what was more impressive was it came with hand cut chips none of these frozen rubbish. If you only have the chips you will not be disappointed both my wife and myself said it reminded us of our childhood when your mum made chips! Our waitress Esme was also really good attentive but not over bearing. As it was very busy she managed to get us a table in the bar area as there was live music which was Xmas themed very good band. Locals very welcoming chatting to us like we had been regulars great atmosphere. Will be returning, specially thank you to Esme for looking after us so well.

Weekend stay
Have stayed a few times over the years, the room was nice, but could do with a make over, and the shower needs something doing with it, it isn't a walk in shower, more like a climb in. Food in the restaurant was delicious, even though there wasn't a big choice, it was all delicious, the chef even made fresh apple sauce for one of the party. Hopefully next time we stay, we will see a difference min the room
