Very good location, no service around, no far from the city, only drive

I really wanted to like this place. It is a step back in time. But, the owner and the staff have become complacent and lazy. They didn't even check our room before check in. We knew that because we found three large - dead - cockroaches on the floor when we stepped in. The table lamp was missing its shade and was always on. The switch didn't work and the plugs in the base did not work either. We had to charge off the lone available outlet by the desk. To get light - you had to screw the lone light bulb in. To turn it off? Unscrew the very hot to the touch bulb. Floors were do dirty, my feet got grayish-black walking from the bathroom to the bed after my shower. I went and got new towels after doing some cleaning and our arrival showers. The next morning, I used a towel to stand on after the shower to keep them clean until socks and shoes could be put back on. Bathroom door could not/would not close and lock. That might bother some people. We were family so, we honored the closed door. The exhaust fan did not work - all that humidity from a shower or the smells from a bathroom visit stayed with you in your room. The air con barely worked. We turned it on at check in (4-ish) and set it for 70. Returning after our concert and dinner (over six hours later) - the room still wasn't cold and dropping it to 63 and upping the fan barely worked to get us through the night. I know (because I just bought one) - a replacement air con that size is less than 200 bucks. Lazy. Curtains falling off the rod. Easy fix that they choose not to do. There is a huge gap under the door that daylight and parking lots pass through - illuminating the floor into the room. Easy Home Depot fix. Lazy. Vacationer beware.

Just horrible all around

Staff and service was wonderful. Older building but charming and close to downtown Nash. The immediate neighborhood isn't too good, but that's not what I was there for -- as I said it's close to everything downtown and THAT is what I was there for. :) I'd stay at the Drake again for sure.

We booked a non smoking room, but when we arrived they told us that they don't have any non smoking rooms left. They wanted to put us in a smoking room,, but we couldn't stand the smell there. Therefore we decided to not stay here and look for another accomodation. The staff was very nice though and apologized for the mix-up.
