Just checked out of a 5 day stay at the Hampton Inn in Murrrieta, CA. I usually like the Hampton Inn’s, but this was not a great stay. I reserved a Studio Suite which was large, but the bathroom felt like it was in the middle of the room and did not work for me. I had a king bed with a too small sheet that only fit down the side of the mattress about 4 inches. This resulted in me waking during each night on the bare mattress – yuk! Bathroom and bar lighting is intensely bright. The breakfast offerings were minimal – out of 5 days, only 1 day had bananas. However, the most irritating part of the stay was the need to negotiate housekeeping every day. During the Covid lockdown, housekeeping was not an option but it is now June 2022 and Covid restrictions are practically non-existent in Murrieta, except at the Hampton Inn. The first morning of my stay I went to the reception desk and requested housekeeping. I was told “no, this was not my scheduled day,” and that for my 5 day stay, I would get housekeeping on the 4th day (this was over a weekend). I objected and asked for just the bathroom and bar to be refreshed. This, the staff agreed to do. The next day, I had fresh towels, coffee, condiments but nothing in the room was touched. Each morning I went to the desk and asked to be refreshed. On the 3rd day, I was told the housekeepers were very busy and they would try to do the refresh, but no guarantee. On the 4th day, the room was fully cleaned. Prior to the lockdown, I am sure the Hampton Inn had a daily housekeeping service option, like every other Hampton Inn’s in which I have stayed. With this stay, it felt like the housekeepers had been eliminated during the lockdown and the hotel owners chose to reduce their staff and pull back on services. The rate I paid averaged more than $200/night, not a rate that should exclude daily housekeeping.
