Visited the hotel to attend a wedding near by. We were allowed to complete an early check in while I only requested it a day before through phone.

Surprised by some of the reviews on here as I had a really pleasant experience. I had booked one of the executive junior rooms which was about €20-30 more expensive than a standard double and this seems to be the difference. My room was away from the main lobby in a separate small building, it was spotless and well maintained and little to no disturbances apart from kids in the play park during the early evening. The spa experience was well worth it. I had pre booked with Natalie and she was fantastic: considering I have a hard time relaxing, she had to wake me up at the end of the treatment which says everything. Really worth the splurge for a treat and highly recommend. The breakfast was great with pancakes but the “eggs your way” were clearly bulk made, oven heated in a tin container. It’s a nit pick but eggs should be made fresh to order in a hotel this small. The staff in general were friendly and courteous, particularly the housekeeping staff who gave me a great restaurant recommendation. The golf shop is well stocked and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. I didn’t have a great sleep as the mattress was very hard but that’s a personal preference. For the location and amenities it’s a really good spot and certainly one I would visit again. One small request is that they reallyyyyy need to install a good quality coffee machine somewhere in the lobby or better still a pod machine in the rooms. I spoke with other guests who agreed that it was difficult to source a cuppa that you could take in the car as you set off sightseeing and it’s one thing that would really be a great addition, and such a small feature that would really benefit guests considering most coffee shops are a minimum 10-15 minute drive away! There are kettles in the room but without takeaway cups they’re not much use if you want to take a cuppa with you.

We stayed two nights in the hotel's junior suite (located in the original house) as part of our anniversary celebrations. Warm welcome and the management very kindly left a complimentary bottle of wine for us in our room, which was a nice touch and greatly appreciated. The room was very pleasant and comfortable with great rain shower in the bathroom. We ate in the hotel both nights; food very good and service friendly and welcoming. This was also the case at breakfast. Would absolutely recommend a stay.

Stayed here on Saturday with my 2 sisters and my mum. We booked the spa for 1pm - so we arrived at 12 in hope to grab some food beforehand. But there was no food available only a scone, breakfast was over and lunch wasn't available till 12.30. We went to the spa, all the staff were welcoming and friendly. We had a back massage and facial booked, my sisters and mum throughly enjoyed their massage with the other therapists, very relaxing and flowed nicely. But my own experience, during the massage he constantly broke contact - going back and forth, it felt very rushed. Same with the facial, no flow to it, rubbing the face with very little product which made it very unpleasant. The hot tub was grubby and water very discoloured, steam room wasn't working, sauna was like a warm room and the heated lounges were cold. It was advertised to get light lunch at the spa , which we purchased. But told we had to get dressed and eat out at the bar. We had light lunch in the bar, presentation was very good. But food has zero flavour to it bar the chips. Rooms were lovely - very spacious and comfortable, well stocked up with water, tea, coffee, towels etc and the beds were very comfortable. Met some of the house keeping staff, they were very friendly and the standard of the rooms were very impressive. We arrived down for dinner at 7pm, starters were lovely and came out quiet quickly, but we waited nearly an hour to receive our mains. And then quickly received our deserts. Good food especially the seafood dishes but the service was very sloppy. We sat in for the music at the bar, which was very good and enjoyable. Lovely atmosphere. Next morning for breakfast, food was very good, the service was brillant. The hotel though was very misleading regarding it as a castle, as there is just ruins of a castle there, the hotel itself is a new built and it did have a house estate on site aswell. But I wouldn't be recommending this hotel to be honest , we paid just under €900 for the one night and it wasn't at all a 4* experiences.

Food was very average pub grub. Mussels not great at all and burger below par. Lighting was also very bright for a 7pm meal so made it a strange experience. Staff were lovely and very helpful though !

A last minute rush of blood to the head brought us to Castle Dargan. We were allocated a beautiful room. Well, three rooms really in the amazingly refurbished old house. We ate in the restaurant with about 30 golfers who added to the atmosphere. Food was excellent if not a bit pricey, however the staff were lovely. Well done to whom ever was responsible for training. Definitely would love to go back.
