Thank God that the new owners of this hotel have saved this historic building with so many of these Victorian hotels have been bulldozed into rubble. They deserve a huge huge thank you from everyone interested in historic preservation. We unfortunately went the first week they were opened and they probably should’ve waited our room with a terrace was unavailable so we had another room which was lovely Bright and had a great view of the harbor. The staff was charming. The new layout of the main floor is a bit awkward. I know the owners are hotel professionals and very well respected on the island, but the food was absolutely awful. They have forgo the traditions of the hotel by eliminating popovers and the lobster stew from the menu And what they’ve replaced it with is less than adequate. A lot of multigenerational Northeast Harbor residence are very disappointed with the food and main floor layout. I’m sure everything will get much much better over time. It is wonderful that they have saved this building and we all should turn out to support them even if they haven’t got it 100% right yet. They need to get some good Internet and obviously they need to finish the hotel And they need to get the food right but God bless them for doing God’s work and saving this historic building.

I booked a 4 night stay over 2 months ago and then 10 days before arrival I got an email saying they were not open and they could not help me etc....-in all my travel experiences I have never encountered this absolutely insane and they did not even seem sorry to boot

Take a step back in time . Customer service above and beyond . No tv in the rooms which is a reminder to take your surroundings in and your family . The views of the harbor are a perfect way to start your day . We slept with the windows open ! Breakfast is great and the views continue . Close to everything Acadia at the back door and a short drive to Bar harbor. Or take the time to walk through this little harbor town. Take the Acadia Lobster Cruise if you want a real treat . And Acadia is better than advertised ! One of the most beautiful areas you’ll ever go . Friendly people , great food , and so much to do . The staff at Asticou will make your vacation even better .

This hotel is in a lovely location and has so much potential, however this year, it just seemed seedy and sad, understaffed and neglected. At the price we paid per night, we expected the experience we had the first time we visited at the same time of year. The prices had gone up, the service, quality and appearance down. Hopefully the upcoming renovation will restore the grandeur of the property, but I will think twice before staying again depending on future pricing.

Showing signs of sad neglect. Services were non-existent, bar and restaurant were closed, no maid service. Place was falling apart, lights flickering continuously, shower zip tied, wooden plank supporting bathtub. Wallpaper peeling off walls, large cracks in bathroom tiling, doors stuck closed - it feels like they gave up in the five years since we last visited. Probably won’t be coming again.

This is a place where you feel both pampered and at home. It feels like what it is: a slice of heaven, the real Maine with all its glorious beauty and understated elegance. This was our honeymoon, and we loved it! The complimentary Breakfast was full of gourmet goodies: figs, cashew granola, home-baked blueberry coffee cake to name a few. The meals in the Dining Room were graced with the original exquisite hand-painted wallpaper and with spectacular water views that set the atmosphere for our delicious food and sumptuous drinks. We just loved the balcony in our room and sat there to enjoy our panoramic view and sip champagne. Who can ask for anything more?

The property is an amazing location on the East Harbor, close to Acadia and Bar Harbor. Great potential as a big old lodge. Very comfortable beds but generally uncomfortable rooms and bathrooms. Needs some “heart”. And definitely needs an emergency generator for at least the water pump and the kitchen for times like the one we just experienced after a bad storm. Generally no prep for safety or comfort of guests.

Room was very dated (‘70’s) kind of motel quality but the cost was as if we were in a 5 star luxury hotel. Only 2 out of 3 lightbulbs in the bathroom work. Has a lot of potential with proper updates. Gas station quality coffee.

Staff was very helpful and friendly. Room was very clean, bed was very comfortable, breakfast had great selection and healthy choices. Location was good for our visits to Acadia Park. Highly recommend.
