Holiday Inn Express & Suites Mount Vernon

This hotel is a regular stop on our route. It’s always neat and clean. We appreciate the convenience of the evening meal on site after a long day on the road. Every employee we encounter goes out of their way to be helpful and friendly. We like the easy off and easy on access to the interstate.

Roaches roaches roaches! I went into the bathroom and small brown roaches were going into and out of the electrical socket. I killed one and one on the wall by the toilet but the others scurried back into the walls via the electrical plug. I went back a few times to try to kill more and tried to discourage them from coming back out with the pump hand soap. This was by far the nastiest room I've stayed at in hotels in this price range and other IHG brands for years. Breakfast was available, with roaches living in their walls would you eat anything? NO! If you doubt my honesty look at the other low reviews also.

We had one night at this hotel on a multi-day trip. When we arrived for check-in, our room wasn't ready until an hour past check-in because they had a housekeeping staff person quit in the middle of the shift. We were told that the type of room we had reserved were usually last on the cleaning lists and take the longest. Thankfully the front desk clerk was able to put us in an identical room that was ready earlier than the one they had originally assigned us to. That room looked like it had been hurried through as the towels were not neatly placed and the beds were not pulled as tight as usual. But the linens were all clean and so was the floor and bathroom - it was just a hurry up job likely due to the loss of a staff person mid-shift. The public areas of the hotel are in need of some attention for things like the back door that doesn't close properly. The elevator sounds like someone is playing ping-pong in it, so that had us using the stairs. The hotel does have a generator which is good because the power went out during a storm while we were there. When guests inquired about procedure for severe weather (tornado warnings), we were told just go in the hallway on the floor we were on. The breakfast was delicious with crispy bacon, variety of eggs, and the usual cinnamon rolls, pancakes, muffins, etc. While the hotel is right next to the interstate, we did not hear traffic from our room which faced the interstate side of the hotel.

Upon check in there was an issue with our reservation, but it was quickly resolved. Front desk check in staff was excellent. It was busy at the time but they handled everyone quickly. Our room was the last one on the third floor overlooking the Doubletree next door. King bed was perfect. We did have a side lounge chair. Plenty of plug ins and desk. There was a mini frig we did not use. Coffee pot was on the outside wall of the bathroom. Bathroom was large and had a large walk in shower. Breakfast the next morning had plenty of hot and cold options. They did have staff working the area. I especially like being given a water to go. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed here while traveling to FL. Very clean, nice comfy bed. Walked across the road to Buffalo Wild Wings for a beer and food. Definitely will stay here again. I guess I need to leave 200 characters in this review hopefully now its good. Nope not enough yet.

Looks fresh and new on the outside and inside the lobby. Front desk personnel were super friendly and energetic considering it was almost 10 at night. Rooms are nice and comfy. Found what might have been a used/eaten doggie bone or rib bone on the floor next to the bed. Other than that, as long as you’re not a light sleeper and can sleep through the highway traffic, it’s a great hotel and location. Highly recommend!

Isn't it nice when you walk into a hotel lobby, 2 employees are at the front desk, and not one greets you until you are literally standing in front of them and say Hello?! So...that was my first impression. Second impression....no courtesies, no "have a nice stay" after check-in....Third Impression....super spacious room and looks like it has recently been remodeled. This is what saved this hotel from being just 1 star for this review was how new the room and hallway looks and how spacious the room is. Fourth impression....definitely not as clean as other Holiday Inn properties! Someone decided to stand with dirty feet in the shower....and those dirty footprints are still there. The coffee machine is so grimy I definitely will not be using. The large lamp above the extended couch area does not work so the big room where bedroom is....very dark at night due to lack of light. There is a lot of road noise. It does not bother me because we are so exhausted from the drive....but to others this may bother them. The hotel is conveniently located for easy on and off highway (thus the road noise) and walking distance to restaurants and fast food- so those are pluses. I do like how they have switched to bottles in the bathroom for soap and lotion rather than those little soap bars- always feel I am wasting those. However, will not come back to this particular property.

Check in was easy and the employee was friendly and helpful. I was given a room with cat hair on most of the hard surfaces. So much so I was only in the room for a minute and my luggage had to cleaned to get the cat hair off of it. I swapped rooms and the next room was fine. Check out the next morning was not seamless. It should be fairly easy and quick to hand off a paper receipt but it took several minutes. I had to wait for several employee conversations to finish before receiving my receipt and sign a document that was lost from the day before. Overall, I don’t think I would stay here again.

We were greeted by a very friendly staff and had a quick check-in. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The USB charging port did not work. Breakfast was a disappointment compared to other Holiday Inn Express. The gravy was cold, pancake maker broken, and cinnamon rolls dry. The lady sitting at the desk at check-out was not friendly at all. She never spoke when I handed her my room key. No "thank you" or anything. She needs to find a new line of work.
