I always prefer to support local or small businesses even when it means paying more. The ginkgo tree inn seemed perfect, and so my partner and I booked less than two hours before we checked in for 3 nights. We were in town for a funeral so didn’t have much time to prepare for this trip and we were thrilled they had an opening (yellow flag since it was Easter weekend). After we checked in we went visiting with our family on this very sad afternoon, and one our family members offered a room to us, and we decided that this would be best for my partner who lost his mother the day before; we really wanted to be with family, but didn’t want to assume which is why we booked a room. Even though we had already booked the ginkgo tree we figured this shouldn’t be an issue because we just made the reservation literally 3 hours prior. I called costumer service and explained our situation and asked if we could change our reservation to 1 night, given our circumstances and the fact that we just made the reservation same day. Of course I’d pay for the first night that’s only fair, but requested if we could please check out early to be with family. Unbelievable they said no, policy was to cancel 7 days ahead. I said, I just made the reservation, I understand why the policy exists, but this situation is different in that 1) we didn’t block another reservation we just booked and 2) we are grieving there is a death please reconsider. They didn’t care. I was shocked. I also requested a call from the owner and the women (who wouldn’t give me her name - odd, very odd) said okay and they never called me back. They are as heartless as a corporation or large chain. We visit mt pleasant 3-4 times a year and will def NOT be staying at this place again. By the way, the tv in our sugarplum room is on the adjacent wall so can’t see it without contorting your neck and there are no dresser drawers or closets so there is no where to hang your clothes, except for 4 wall hooks, which they kindly pointed out as if I was the one who was crazy for asking for a rack to use in my room. the water pressure is not strong and the drains are plugged. A mistake on so many levels. Maybe your visit will be better. But why risk it. These people are uncaring and only Want your money. Must be desperate.
