We traveled to Honey Creek Resort in June of 2025. First of all, the resort is just beautiful. It is secluded and the grounds are wooded and so pretty. I truly lost count of how many white tail deer we saw. Our room had a view of Rathbun Lake and while we did not spend much time in the room, the room was spacious, the bed comfy and it was quiet. We came to explore the general area to spend time on the lake and take photos of wildlife but I was thrilled to discover we could grab coffee in the morning from Amelia's Cafe--they made us great caramel lattes--was not expecting that! There is very easy access down to the lake--we have our own gear but I did notice kayaks available at the beach. While our room was in the main lodge, I am eager to come back and stay in one of the cabins we saw as we drove in. This is resort is ideal for those who appreciate nature, lake life, and just a slower pace getaway. The resort does sit about two miles off the road--you cannot see it when you turn in--if you are golfing, you will drive back up to the course. This was not problem for us. We stopped in to check out the shop but did not golf (we did, however, buy a fresh chocolate chip cookie). Everyone at the resort was very friendly. Highly recommend!

At 2 nights for over $550.00 did not expect room to be in poor condition. Holes in walls. Wear on walls. Mattress falling apart. Lights out or mismatched bulbs. Food was good. Staff polite.

This trip was fun! Pros: -The cabins are comfortable -The lake has minimal lake ****, in my experience -The pontoon boats are fun to be on -The cabins come with fire pits, great for s’mores -The beach is clean and has plenty of kayaks and paddle boards -The lazy river in the water park is nice and is a decent speed Cons: -The lake has a strange muddy bottom. I was fine with it but I understand it could be an uncomfortable experience for some -The water park is small -Lots of bugs. Bring bug spray, bug traps, and try not to leave your cabin doors open too long -It can get very hot and bright, especially when out on the lake. Bring sun screen!!! Overall my family and I loved our stay!

I’m glad to see ongoing improvements at this resort. Staff at the check in desk were friendly and professional, while the banquet gals were very attentive and also friendly. The room was clean and well maintained. The Prairie Rose bar and restaurant was a great spot to hang out. Facilities were up to par. Keep up the great work!

We were a little skeptical based on some previous reviews, but our family of 6 had a very good first experience at Honey Creek resort! The people we talked with at the front desk were very nice and helpful. Our cabin was newly renovated, very clean, and had all the amenities we needed. The mattresses were also very comfortable. Our kids loved the indoor waterpark and our youngest was ecstatic to find that he could ride the bigger waterslide (42" min). The kids also enjoyed the foosball, air hockey and arcade games just outside of the pool area. We took advantage of the extensive trail system and appreciated that they kids could ride their bikes on it to the nice outdoor playground down the road. We were also able to have a campfire in one of the conveniently located fire rings near the cabin. Overall, we were very impressed and plan to return in the future!

We recently stayed at Honey Creek Resort for my 40th birthday and you want to know how it went. That’s thoughtful. Thanks. This resort is beautiful driving in, but once we walked into our cabin, it just got worse the more time we spent. Our initial complaints were answered with a phone call, an offer to get us a new cabin and a minor refund on a major bill. I could regale you with an elaborate tale of a birthday weekend gone awry, but you don’t want to read that much and I don’t want to relive it again that much. So, here are the bullet points that we sent to the resort staff in our 3rd attempt that was as equally ignored as our 2nd: •The floors were dirty and clearly hadn't been cleaned for some time; shoes had brought dirt in and no one cleaned up what was left behind. • Dishwasher was full of dishes for us to put away • Laminate peeling off side of counter • Multiple rusty vents that were sticking up out the floor • Nearly all of the walls were in need of repair, paint, patching, etc. • Filthy lightswitches • Floor trim was missing • Wall under construction at the head of bunk bed • Dead bugs all over • Broken drawer in the kitchen • Mystery goop on bunk bedroom door & freezer door • Light bulb not working in main living space • Broken coffee table • Broken end table • Broken lamp • Side exterior door handle was damaged and in need of repair/replacement • Gum stuck on underside of bunk beds • We were told ahead of time that the smaller kids section of the pool was out, so no complaints there, but the obstacle course at the pool wasn't available and that was disappointing. We realized this when I stepped on a hook at the bottom of the pool that would normally be used to secure the course. • The basketball hoop at the pool is horribly damaged and rusty • The pool has mold & mildew in the grout. There is so much buildup around the filters. The bottom of the hot tub is absolutely filthy. Even smaller details, like a working clock, have been neglected. Broken chairs & tables. • The bathroom door off the bedroom couldn't latch shut • Cobwebs & dust clumps all over ceiling • Multiple TV remotes missing parts • Many TV channels worked only periodically. The screen said the connection was bad. • The TV in our bedroom didn't work at all. • While trying to turn the TV on, I received a fairly considerable electric shock. My arm tingled for close to a half hour. Potentially not safe. • Our beds were covered in someone else's hair. Clearly they hadn't been changed. • Chunk out of the bathtub • The comforter on the twin bunk had multiple holes in it & was tattered. There was another hole in the sheets. • The railing on the bunk bed was extremely wobbly. • We asked for our bed sheets to be changed and someone from maintenance dropped off sheets, telling us we'd have to change them ourselves. • The sheets that were dropped off didn't even include a new comforter, which was primarily where we found the hair. So, while I changed the sheets, we still had to

Almost no seating in the lobby or outside of the restaurant area to enjoy spending time with big families (14 of us couldn’t spend any time all together). Sat at restaurant for 30 min no service. Kiddos were upset the pool closed 4 hours earlier than advertised. Rooms are out of date, different colored lighbulbs and cracked blinds, nonworking outlets etc. The beach needs a good cleaning and needs more than 6 chairs and 2 umbrellas. It really could be a lovely place but the lack of proper maintenance and staffing is gonna put this place out of business. Seems that they are trying to be too way many things, instead of having a few really good quality things to do. Staff that was there was friendly and kind and I’m sure none of this is their fault, they can’t do everything though, one guy said he was in charge of life guarding and front desk and pool that day. Management and owners need a wake up call.

This resort has potential. But lack of staff and too spread out. You need your own transportation to get to things if staying in cabins and rv camp. Amenities are 1/2 mile to 1 mile apart. For the most part the grounds are kept up well. Except for the hundreds of barn swallows that have taken over the lodge. Both with flying around and dive bombing you and the feces all over the building and side walks/door entrances. The water park is small and the floors covered in sand grit from people coming in from the beach/lake to use either the showers or pool. You pay $25 resort fee but that includes only access to the water park and use of paddles boards at the beach, other rides train, horse/buggy are extra and they have limited times that vary each day. The staff that is there is exceptional! The food at the restaurant was good. For the rv campgrounds you are parking on cement, but no shade and no extra facilities (showers, toilets, playground). Just a glorified parking area mostly for boaters. The golf course was always busy, not sure if they are people staying there or driving in to use. Consider what you are paying for and what amenities you want before staying here.
