Visited here a few years ago for Afternoon Tea when we sat in the comfy lounge by a roaring fire. The weather was much kinder this time and we were able to sit outside in the sunshine. The Afternoon Tea is huge and for an extra £11 you can choose 3 small glasses of the House Wine. To be honest, the choice of sandwiches was very ordinary and boring. However, the choice of savouries was brilliant with really yummy quiche, sausage rolls, scotch egg and mini chicken burger. The choice of cake was also good except, instead of the 4 chocolate brownies, it would've been nicer to have 2 different options. This was the perfect venue surrounded by beautiful countryside

My Dad and I came to the Hall for Sunday lunch last weekend. The meal was delicious with plenty to eat and it was no problem to ask for extra gravy and apple sauce to accompany our roast pork. We were delighted when we were each given a biscoff biscuit with our coffees. Then a yummy chocolate each when Dad paid the bill. However, when we initially arrived we were greeted by a very surly and abrupt member of staff in the entrance hall. Once Dad (who is nearly 90) got to the bar he was able to see what beer he would like to drink. This man poured Dad a pint of Monty's Sunshine but to be honest, there was more beer on the outside of the glass! Dad was worried that this man seemed cross /agitated, so didn't feel he could say anything so instead got his own handkerchief out to wipe the outside of his sticky, wet glass. I asked for a glass of local red wine but was told it was only available by the bottle. As I was driving, that wasn't an option! So instead I ordered a Welsh gin and tonic. He asked if I would like a slimline tonic, but I said no I would prefer a regular tonic water. However he poured a whole bottle of Fevertree Light into my Gin! Unfortunately, even though we really enjoyed our Sunday lunch, we won't be returning. I have spent many years in hospitality so know how important a good customer service is. This member of staff gave the lovely hall setting a horrible atmosphere. I wonder how many other people will be voting with their feet? Such a shame.

What a fantastic hotel. We came here as part of our anniversary and stayed in the Mellington Suite, a gorgeous room with a huge, comfy four poster bed and a double whirlpool bath. We arrived late due to work commitments but were informed by Ellen, a fantastic, helpful and friendly employee, that the kitchen would still make us dinner, even though we’d arrived an hour after the kitchen was due to close. After dinner, we went to our room and Henry, awesome and friendly hotel manager, had written a nice welcoming card and left us a chilled bottle of Champagne. Saturday was a nice quiet day with a lie in and then a walk around the lovely grounds, wildlife spotting. Afterwards, a fantastic, cooked to perfection rib eye steak was the evening meal. We made it down in time for breakfast on Sunday, which, like the two meals previously, was lovely. After packing, we had a chat with some of the staff, nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them, and had a drink with Alistair and Clare, the owners. Great to hear about the history of the hotel.

I took my mother for Sunday lunch on Mothers Day. This was my second visit after enjoying a lovely Sunday lunch with friends before. Unfortunately we didn’t have the same experience as before. The roast beef was good but the quantity of meat was so measly that it wouldn’t have been enough to cover a round of bread to make a sandwich. The amount of gravy was not enough to cover the meal and a gravy boat was not available on the table as it was previously. The French beans were not cooked but the rest of the vegetables were really tasty. We were seated at a table in the bar instead of the restaurant which was not pointed out when I made the reservation. As a large party of people came in and stood all around the bar chatting it made it so noisy that we couldn’t talk with each other across the table. I’m not usually one to complain but did point out when I paid that we were disappointed with our experience and that it was not as good as previous times we had Sunday lunch with them. The reply was that my comments would be passed on but I expect that this was just lip service. No real apology or even an offer of any sort of partial reimbursement. So safe to say we won’t be going back or making any more recommendations to our friends.

Stunning place to visit. Everything was wonderful. The staff were great. Just the bed felt like it was the original from the 18 hundreds. It was seriously uncomfortable. Such a pity as the rest of our stay was absolutely fabulous and I commend the staff for how attentive they all were. The building from the outside is absolutely stunning and I would really recommend visiting.
