This quaint Riverview Cabin is located along State Highway 96 that is along the Scenic River Road, two miles north of Hamilton (on Mimosa Hill), Illinois or 10 miles south of historic Nauvoo, Illinois. The Cozy Cabin offers unique charm and quirks since it was built in 1901, primarily as a fishing cabin. This cabin is naturally rustic. DESCRIPTION of LOCATION: The views from this cabin offer views of the Mississippi River, gorgeous sunsets, eagles soaring, pelicans bobbing along, and other water wildlife. Barges cruise up and down the river on a regular basis, as well as river boats, and fishing boats. Trains rumble along the Iowa side of the river at different times. The lily pads add to the canvas and begin to bloom a lotus shaped bloom in mid-summer. There is a wide variety of features around the cabin and in the neighboring areas to take advantage of. Bring your fishing poles and visit the Illinois DNR website to gain a fishing license and try out some of the local fishing hot spots. Geode hunting is a favorite pastime for locals and visitors. Nauvoo offers historical adventures throughout much of the spring, summer, and fall months. Neighboring towns like Hamilton, Carthage, and Keokuk also have charm, shopping, tourism opportunities, and modern conveniences. Outside the Riverview Cabin you can enjoy the swing while you take in the river views. Explore and revel in the blooming flower gardens around the cabin. Sit out on the secluded patio that backs up to tall mature trees and appreciate the fire ring. Other wild birds can be viewed and watched from the picnic table while BBQing. The tranquility of nature is all around the cabin. Eagles may land in the trees to eat a fish. Squirrels scurry up to the canopy of the trees. A deer or a family of deer may wander by unexpectedly. There is a rest area that is walking distance from the Riverview Cabin. The mowed areas just across the road from the cabin are state owned and can be utilized as a picnic spot, area to play, or spend time exploring. There are other areas like this along this scenic highway, too. CABIN FEATURES: When you visit the Riverview Cabin, you will enter the front door into the living room. Cute quiet clean enjoyable private little cabin Adorable older cabin, but is very nicely decorated. Clean and presentable with nice amenities. Outside is welcoming also with a wonderful patio having much to enjoy. Only concern was soft flooring in kitchen. Bed could have been a little more comfortable.

We really enjoyed our stay in this cabin! The cabin was extremely clean, had everything we needed (towels, bedding, basic kitchen supplies), and the ac unit kept up even in the heat wave we were experiencing (plus there are several fans you can move where desired). It has a beautiful view of the river, and the outdoor garden/patio space is stunning. The host even shared some tomatoes and peppers with us - yum! Yes, the floors are wonky and the ceiling is low in places, but it adds to the unique character of the place (granted, a 6ft person may be bothered more by the ceiling height in places, but we weren’t). Our kids loved this place and we’d stay here again! Great price, location, and overall stay! Thank you!

Pleasant stay along the River in Hamilton This cozy cottage is well furnished with many attractive touches. There are also games, DVD movies and books for all ages. There is a dining room table, which we also used to play games on. The recliner chair and platform rocker and couch were most comfortable. There was an air conditioner in the dining room. and for cool days a space heater in the living room. We were well pleased with our stay.

Beautiful spot, but read the reviews to know what you're getting My kids were extatic to see the place. They loved the "tiny house". I loved the gardens and view. We had everything we needed, except wifi. That really through us through a loop because my husband needed wifi to work remotely and that's one thing I made sure was in the listing. However, their wifi was out of order and I would have liked to be notified by the owner. FYI- if you need something from the owner you'll have to call. She did not respond to texts. I was not prepared for the slanted and soft floors. My kids thought it was cool though. There are no interior doors, except for the bathroom, but we couldn't get it to lock. Shower worked great. There's only one bed. All the kids slept on cots and air mattresses. There were lots of games and toys for the kids to play with. We had a good stay overall.

Convenient location and view was nice. Place was clean overall, but cluttered, Traffic on road below noisy. Cabin was musty smelling. I realize the place was built some time ago, but really needs better maintenance - some window sash held shut / down with sticks of wood, some wouldn’t open at all to let air in (and air conditioner was so noisy I couldn’t sleep with it on), some crack out windows didn’t work at all, one blind in living room broke so we couldn’t open it, electricity would never pass an inspection (was running all over the walls to connect to outlets and lights), floors so uneven it felt like you were in a fun house with the floors moving up and down as you walked. Perhaps some people find some of this country charming, but it certainly wasn’t what I expected for the 4.7 out of 5 rating it had. The description did indicate the internet wasn’t totally reliable, however it never connected at all for the two nights we were there, and we had to change all the TV settings ourselves to get any regular (like NBC) type channels. Sorry, but this is the truth.

Crooked cabin is comfy too The river cabin is very very clean, and has everything you need for a stay. Great communication with the nice owner! Very comfy bed and couch, seating around the dining room table for plenty as well. Yes, the floors tilt in many directions and the ceiling is low in the back part of the kitchen.. it is a river cabin built in 1901 after all, but very tall 6'+ may need to watch out, but wasn't a problem. Just have your sea legs on and enjoy the unique stay! The living room, swing, and picnic table views to the river are great! And the bed is level and very, very comfy. If we find ourselves back in this area I wouldn't hesitate to book again.
