Outside of the tourist season we chose Monte Real as a base to get to know the center of Portugal. The Hotel is located in a well-known area of baths and hot springs, of which I cannot report. The closest beach is Vieira, just 15 minutes away by car. It is the classic Portuguese Atlantic beach, swept by the wind and with occasional mists. Golden sand, clear waters and sufficient services: lifeguards, restaurants, hammocks... The Hotel is not flashy on the outside, but it is impeccable on the inside; the 3 stars are sufficiently earned. Buffet breakfasts, not at all strident, with what is necessary for a good breakfast, both sweet and salty, and with excellent coffee. The rooms are medium in size, clean, well maintained, with a large and complete bathroom. The Hotel has light performances at night, although the bar service is very fair; it would be by the end of the season, but they were short of everything. It was the only negative note. Attentive, efficient and very friendly staff, willing to make up for any lack or request of the guests. We only tried a buffet dinner and it has sufficient quality, both in variety, as well as in price and quality. It has a heated pool, but we did not try it. In summer the fuscurit (curtains for sunlight) may not darken the room sufficiently. A good choice for thermal enjoyment or summer.
