This is a cool historic property that used to be part of the Winterthur estate, one of the Dupont family’s properties in the area, and was the perfect base for our visit to Wilmington and the Brandywine Valley, during which we visited Winterthur, Nemours Estate, Hagley Museum, and Longwood Gardens, all within 5-17 minutes driving distance. I booked a 2-bedroom suite for my family, and what I liked about this property is that the rooms have separate bathrooms, and depending on the layout, the rooms could either both be on the same floor, or on separate floors, so it was very private. I was traveling with my husband, our toddler, and my parents, so this setup was ideal for us. We were given a 3-floor apartment, so the bedrooms are on the 2nd & 3rd floors, with a living room area on the ground floor, which has a mini fridge, microwave, small sink, and comes with coffee & tea, which you can also get in the main lobby. The property was built to house the staff that worked on the DuPont estate back in the day, and the grounds are laid out like a small village with individual cottages or townhouses, which I thought was unique and interesting. It is a little dated in parts and there were some details that missed the mark, like the bed is comfortable enough but the mattress is a bit creaky, our phones weren’t working so I couldn’t call the front desk and had to walk there, the toilet paper roll was sliding off a slanted holder that was loose, and the one that bothered me most was how heavily perfumed the housing unit was when we walked in. Artificial air fresheners give me a headache, so I found the Glade plug-in and had to unplug it and air out the rooms. None of those things were a big deal to me (except the air freshener) but more attention to detail could be paid to the maintenance. The rooms were otherwise very clean and comfortable, and we loved the charm and character of the place. The staff we encountered were all warm and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely book it again if we return to the area.

I’ve stayed at the Montchanin many times over the past few years as I’ve been working in the area and each “room” is different but all are cozy and transport you to a different era. In the best way it doesn’t feel like a hotel but more like a charming cottage complete with a fireplace [at least in the the rooms I’ve stayed in]

We enjoyed our time here. The front desk staff were warm. We were able to stay in a suite while they were offering a flash sale. The room was nice with a small sitting area with an electric fireplace,lots of windows,and an extremely comfortable bed! The bathroom was very large and spacious and updated. We enjoyed walking all around the grounds. This inn is a perfect location to stay in if you’re visiting Winterthur or Longwood Gardens.

This spa hotel is quiet and relaxing. They even mailed my electric toothbrush back to me when I called and told them I forgot to pack it before leaving. I did not use the spa but the Krazy Kats Restaurant was very convenient to walk to and food was well prepared. They even added a birthday candle to my dessert! It is near Dupont mansions and local museums and wineries.

We met our friends midway as we wanted to go to Longwood Gardens and some other parks. The Inn is set in a few buildings. Our room was very large and comfortable. The bathroom was a bit dated. We had a fireplace which we needed to use as it was rainy and cold. Thought there was breakfast included but it would appear that they stopped serving this in 2024. Our friends have been there before and did have breakfast.

This was our fifth time staying at the historic Montchanin; as always, it was wonderful. The accommodations were spotless and spacious. The inn is a gem, and the staff is helpful and friendly. The grounds are beautiful and inviting. We will be back.

This was a late birthday gift to me from my fiance she booked back in January. She had booked for us two massages and dinner at Krazy Kats restaurant which is on site. We were so excited and when we arrived on time for our Massage appointment they looked at us like we had two heads. They told us they had been hacked and they lost all the info in their computer since that had no one else scheduled for a massage that day they did not have massage therapist on that day. Two things when they were hacked since it was only their system that got hacked the Inn should have contacted every one who had reservations to see if anyone had a massage scheduled. Second they offered nothing for our inconvenience. 3rd while checking out the girl in by registration did not even acknowledge us when checking out no have a nice day how was your visit etc. The room was nice too many stairs . Krazy Kats was great if your in the area eat their. We just wont be going back you pay high end dollars for mediocre service.
