The service was great. It was a cute room, wish they had option for a breakfast at the hotel as the restaurant don’t open till 4. The food at supper was great. There are lots of options for food within in a 10 minute walk. Make sure u have charging cube as there is no option to plug in your phone cord.

The room was dirty and broken. The owner called the rcmp and sent them to my home for giving a bad review on Facebook asking the RCMP to tell me to remove it and attempted to accuse me of defamation. All I did was post the photos of the room, social media saw them and reacted accordingly.

To summarize in a few words; stolen bike, dirty room and lousy customer service, a real nightmare. I strongly advise against the St James Gate hotel, both for the rooms, the customer service and the area of Moncton where it is located. We visited the St James Gate Hotel this summer and it was an absolute nightmare. When we arrived, we realized that there was no private parking so the employees told us to park in the municipal parking lot across the street without adding any details. As there is no elevator or secure locker or storage and our room was on the 3rd floor, we had to leave our bikes locked on our car. We were robbed during the night and the next day the hotel employee simply told us that this happened very often and that there was nothing she could do for us. She told us that several people are being robbed in this parking lot. We can still read on the website that this is the place where they recommend parking even today. I tried to contact the hotel after our departure to discuss the incident with the manager after several attempts and over several weeks I was never able to speak to anyone. Rooms: Our room smelled of cheap perfume to mask a smell of humidity, the only window did not open of course.

First room we got was not what we saw online and fridge had a very strong smell of ammonia. Luckily there was another room available. What they consider a Suite is nothing more than a basic room anywhere else and worth about half of what it cost us. $100/night room at the most. The website said on the 3rd floor, which we were on, you couldn't hear noise from the bar. It doesn't mention the nightclub loud music from the event center across the hall keeping us awake most of the night. All in all, it was our worst hotel stay ever.

No one available to help. No curtains to block out huge fluorescent lights. Loud music beneath us. No help with luggage and huge steps. Good thing no emergency as you can't reach anyone. I would not recommend this place unless you have had enough to drink to just pass out.

The price was acceptable. We arrived at 3pm, when checking was supposed to start. All doors were locked. We went back at 4pm, and doors still locked. No way to contact anyone associated to the property. Finally got self checked in. Noticed on checkin email, that there was a no noise/party comment. Music from event room was so loud (until 230am) that we had to turn the TV up louder. At around 11pm, a lady was in the hall banging on a door yelling and screaming at the top of her lungs, for at least 40 minutes. Again, no way to contact anyone at the porpperty.

**cracks knuckles** I've been eager to write this review since the minute we stepped into the "lobby" of this "hotel." Let's start with the positives. Good location! Easy to find! And the attached restaurant is legitimately good (albeit slow). Now. Everything else. If you read the fine fine print, the listing says that "some" of the rooms "on the upper floors" are accessible only by stairs. But fuss is made that the rooms accommodate wheelchairs. (This post is not about any personal inconvenience to me or my family - we do not use wheelchairs. This post is about deceptive descriptions of the property which will, in fact, impact anyone. But especially anyone with a physical disability.) No where does it say that the lobby itself is accessibly only by stairs. We hauled our bags up to the "lobby" where the "staff" barely deigned to drag herself out from behind the desk when our passcode wouldn't let us in. When we asked where the elevator was, she said there wasn't any and started to walk away. When I asked where the parking was, she said there was "an issue" and there wasn't any and that we should just find some. (Eventually, some fellow guests -- who were also severely disappointed in the property -- shared their solution with us and we found parking. Still waiting on a reply to a Tweet I'd sent to the property asking for help ... and that was about a week ago.) This isn't a "boutique" hotel. This is a chain. With management not available onsite to help trouble shoot. And clearly with staff not empowered to solve problems. The room itself was relatively fine. The restaurant was loud at night. The shower is degrading and sharp pieces of grout literally came out each time we showered -- sharp pieces which we stepped on and tossed out. This reads like a property owned by some investment bros who don't care about hoteling (or guests) and are in it for a quick buck.

This boutique hotel is well located in downtown Moncton (short walk to tidal bore viewing, e.g.) but the emphasis is on sleek decor more than convenience. You get an email with key codes to check in. The person I spoke at the "virtual help desk" number was useful and accommodating to an early arrival, and the virtual help desk apparently operates out of the hotel lobby, but no staff are on site during the night. No elevators, and the stairs are steep and narrow, but we appreciated being on the third floor nonetheless since it lessened the amount of noise from the live music in the restaurant below the hotel. Bed was comfortable, bathroom was stylish. Our "view" was to a air well but at least that kept things quiet.

This is a fine hotel with very well thought through rooms. Lots of detail to make your stay very nice. Would be full stars but my booking stated 'breakfast included' and there wasn't any... It's a self check in and out so there was nobody to ask either. Sent a couple of messages but no reply - disappointing as otherwise I would have highly recommended this place.
