A lovely lunch in the most beautiful surroundings, made even more special by our wonderful waiter Simon (The poshest Scouser we’ve ever met :-) He was extremely attentive and was generous with his time, making us feel relaxed and valued; nothing was too much trouble. I ate from the Winter set menu and my husband chose from the à la carte. All beautifully presented and delicious. Thank you for making my birthday special.

The location, grounds and building are lovely. Ambiance is unpretentious and professional, the food delicious. The rooms are lovely but our bathroom was a let down. Very deep old and somewhat dangerous bathtub, with mixer shower taps. No way to shower without flooding. Very limited shelving/storage - nowhere to put washbags etc.

We visited the hotel for 3 days over the new year period package . We had an amazing time from arriving to leaving the hotel staff could not do enough for guests it was warm cosy with open fire places with big baskets of logs to burn . Our room was warm and welcoming with the most comfy bed and well maintained during our stay . The food through out the stay was of a very high standard and the Gala dinner was very good .and the fireworks at midnight were amazing . All in all a brilliant break with amazing staff. Thank you

Went for our traditional family Christmas afternoon tea and it was superb as ever. Such lovely surroundings, fires roaring and goodies to die for! It is a real treat to come here and the quality of everything is superb. Service was excellent and attentive.

A gem on the Tamar. A hotel to fulfil dreams. Fabulous gardens to explore as well as a stretch of the River Tamar to meander along. Afternoon tea was bliss. Dinners exceptional. Service was professional and friendly. Our room was spacious and so comfortable. A real delight in stunning scenery.

Due to the reputation of the owners and the top end price tag, for us at least, we expected much, but we were sadly disappointed. Room 11 - TV in the room was ancient and tiny. No tea tray in the room, but this was delivered on request, however, the plug points were situated in the skirting and the kettle cable wouldn’t reach that far, so the kettle had to live on the floor. Hairdryer was good, but there wasn’t a mirror in the room close to a plug point. Lovely comfy bed but again, plug points were under the bedside table in the skirting, so tricky to get to. Great shower. It was all a bit old fashioned for us, including the food, which was fine but again, a bit old fashioned, with tiny blobs of this and that and carrots you could hardly see 😂 The gardens were stunning and if we do return it would be for an afternoon tea and a tour of the gardens. Sadly we had awful weather and couldn’t explore as much as we’d intended. However, staff were lovely. I’d like to particularly mention Harry, such a lovely lad who made the best Cosmo’s!

A beautiful old building in a quintessentially English Country House setting of formal gardens bounded by a veritable arboretum of majestic trees and the River Tamar. The interior is slightly shabby but in the tasteful way that you would expect your Dowager Aunt’s country home to be. Open roaring fires in all the main rooms and comfortable seating everywhere. The rooms are cosy and whilst the plumbing is dated the hot water flows instantly and without the slightest groan. The bath in our room was quite literally large enough for me to float in when full. The Staff are excellent and seem genuinely concerned to ensure that we wanted for nothing, and the cooking is Devine with different menus each day. In its marketing literature The Hotel describes itself generously but we felt that in every respect it exceeded our expectations; we will be back.

The location and the staff made this a very pleasant and relaxing stay. The front-of-house and restaurant staff were polite, helpful and responded positively to virtually any request. This Hotel is extremely good, but not quite perfect!
